The purpose of this position is to support GMA’s advocacy efforts at the State Capitol.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serves as registered lobbyist for the Association at the Georgia General Assembly; monitors state legislation and attends committee meetings.

Assists in planning and developing the Association’s policy development process and other relevant programming, such as training sessions and engagement opportunities for municipal government officials and legislators.

Writes, prepares, and completes various forms, reports, correspondence, legislative analyses, legislative policies, magazine content, etc., with an emphasis on compiling the weekly legislative newsletter and advocacy and social media communications during session.

Coordinates with governmental relations staff to enhance Hometown Connection Program by proactively recruiting cities to participate, assisting with scheduling of all attendees and developing sample materials for city officials to use; generate reports on attendees and legislative engagement.

Assists with engagement of the Legislative Policy Council (LPC), such as maintaining updated contact information and preparing advocacy related alerts via email and text message.

Assists governmental relations staff in compiling agendas for the weekly conference calls during the legislative session and weekly minutes that follow each call.

Generates a report of attendance rates at the midpoint and end of the legislative session.

Builds relationships with all LPC members, and work to identify potential LPC members among GMA membership.

Coordinates with governmental relations staff and other relevant departments on all programming needs, policy proposals and other essential tasks for spring listening sessions, fall district meetings and annual membership meetings (Cities United Summit and Convention).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy or related field required. One to three years of experience in public policy analysis or governmental affairs, preferably in local government or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
