Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT) is a nonprofit serving the youth of Richmond’s East End through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment activities, and community partnerships. We are looking for a relational Development Manager who has experience managing development systems and data. This person will build and steward donor relationships and ensure regular, coordinated, segmented, and donor-centric contact. Additionally, this person will serve as the primary database manager, ensuring the integrity of all donor data and reporting. As a key member of CHAT’s development team, this person will work closely with the Executive Director, Chief of Development & Operations, and Director of Communications to raise over $2.5 million annually in philanthropic support to fuel CHAT’s work. 

Qualifications

  • Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles’ Creed and lived out in a faith community
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution 2–4 years of fundraising experience that includes data management, planning, stewardship, and skill development
  • Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, anticipate and respond to needs, prioritize, and solve problems
  • Creativity and imagination in developing and implementing engagement strategies with existing donors and prospects
  • Strong data management and technology skills, Salesforce experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and increase CHAT’s donor retention and acquisition rates across all donor types
  • Oversee all aspects of donor relations for foundations, corporations, family foundations, and individuals, identifying opportunities to recognize and steward donors generally and also facilitate specific, personalized recognition
  • Develop and maintain the gift acknowledgment process and execute all cultivation communications
  • Nurture and sustain long-term relationships with donors and partners at the $5,000 level and below, executing an annual stewardship plan and reaching revenue goals In partnership with the Director of Communications, plan, design, and execute regular segmented touchpoints, using a variety of tactics to communicate, engage, and steward donors throughout the year
  • Manage the development database (Salesforce), ensure quality of constituent and gift data, and execute all financial data entry, list pulls, dashboard development, reporting, and analysis
  • Write and edit copy for grants, digital communications, and donor relations materials 
  • Coordinate event planning and grant writing, in alignment with annual fund development goals

Position Overview & Compensation

  • Full-time, minimum of 40 hours/week, overtime exempt. 
  • Anticipated range of compensation: $40,000–$50,000, negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. We offer competitive health insurance plans with dependent care, parental leave, personal days, and more.
  • Reports to CHAT’s Chief of Development & Operations.
  • It is our expectation that the person hired to fill this position will work from our administrative offices, located at 3015 N Street, Richmond, VA, with standard Monday-Friday business hours and occasional evening or weekend work as required to meet the needs of the role.
