Nutrition Program Consultant II
Department: Nutrition and Family Well-Being
Supervisor: Assistant Director, Compliance & Monitoring

RESPONSIBILITIES
Training and Technical Assistance
1. Coordinate and provide on-site technical assistance (observation and consultation) and group workshops for child care programs and parents
2. Ongoing evaluation of program training needs
3. Ongoing technical assistance
4. Adapt training to individual needs of programs
- Based on education levels and learning styles
5. Develop individual plan of improvement for each child care program in projects
6. Develop and/or provide training sessions based on needs identified within the community
Monitoring Compliance with CACFP Rules and Regulations
1. Prepare for on-site visits by checking records of claiming patterns and problems identified at previous visits
2. Follow review schedule and ensure all reviews are done in compliance with State and Federal time frames
3. Review performance of child care programs at on site reviews and by monitoring monthly records online
4. Complete all aspects of the on-site review in accordance with Federal guidelines and State and CNP Policy, and document accordingly:
- Meal types and times
- Meal components
- Meal counts
- Menu review and paperwork documentation
- 5 day reconciliation
- Enrollment verification
5. Ensure foods are prepared and served following food safety guidelines and quality standards
6. Provide menu suggestions to encourage variety in foods and preparation methods that are consistent with healthy practices
7. Provide resource materials for menus, recipes, and meal planning
8. Review and document the content of the entire review. Corrective action, if identified, is documented and follow up action is planned
9. Menu concerns are documented for follow-up
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Dietetics, Nutrition, Health or related field (Bachelor required). Dedicated to on-going professional development.
- Three or more years of combined experience working with groups of young children (birth-12 years of age) and supervision of adults in child care settings
- Experience with nutrition programs in early childhood education or school-age setting: CACFP, SFSP, NSLP, Farm to ECE/Preschool, etc.
- Experience in preparation of healthy meals and snacks
- Knowledge of Bright From the Start regulations, Quality Rated system, Environmental Rating Scales and Georgia State Funded Pre-K system
- Strong organization skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills (written and oral)
- Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of National Accreditation standards and assessment tools including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA), Council on Accreditation (COA), and the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC)
- Valid driver’s license and personal transportation required
- Available to work occasional nights and weekends

- Self-directed with the ability to work independently
- Georgia Approved Trainer, preferred. Please submit a copy of your training approval letter.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent driving
- Consistently standing for two hours or more delivering training
- Sitting at the computer for three hours or more at a time
- Bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and moderate lifting (at least 25 pounds) required
- Noise level in the work environment may be high at times
