Team Overview

The Development Team is a foundational pillar of Southface. As the face of the organization, we're connecting with donors and foundations, building new relationships in the community and identifying opportunities to grow and expand our work.

Position Overview

The Development and Events Manager manages the membership program, the Annual Fund, and provides oversight and direction for our annual Visionary Dinner, bi-monthly Sustainable Atlanta Roundtable learning opportunities, Solstice events and other Southface events. This position reports to the Development, Senior Manager. Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

Fundraising:

  • Identify and implement strategy for improving membership development and retention, maximizing revenue generation, and exceeding annual unrestricted revenue goals.
  • Cultivate member relationships, track and implement solicitation and stewardship process, and oversee membership customer service.
  • Support development and distribution of cultivation and stewardship content in conjunction with the Communications + Outreach team.
  • Coordinate internal and external meetings, including preparing meeting materials, sending any necessary information to the donor or partner prior to the meeting, taking meeting minutes and initiating follow up communications.
  • Support the Development Senior Manager with identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of existing and prospective individual and corporate donors.

Events:

  • Manage all event logistics, planning, and execution. Play a lead role in developing budgets and meeting expense and revenue goals.
  • Collaborate closely with key program and communications staff to determine objectives, programming needs and requirements for events, meetings and conferences.
  • Liaise with speakers, talent, awardees and external constituents in the planning and production of the event program.
  • Lead process of soliciting sponsors for events.
  • Select and manage the coordination of vendors and services for events including facilities, catering, signage, audio-visual equipment, displays, collateral and special needs requirements, including virtual platforms for event management.

Operations:

  • Maintain all fundraising data in Salesforce; leverage database to manage event, payment and sponsor data.
  • Implement gift processing and donor acknowledgement process with oversight from the Senior Manager.
  • Coordinate facility rentals, providing exceptional service to external clients.

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of development experience; events or membership experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts and/or event sponsorships.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple events, processes, and projects simultaneously, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and online databases; Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Diplomatic and confident; able to maintain good relationships with donors.
  • Team player who is motivated by the mission of Southface, and has the character, integrity and service orientation to represent the organization.

Physical Requirements

Normal office setting on most days. Some light lifting required to manage events, reposition event furniture, carry catering supplies, etc.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. This is an exempt, salaried position. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
