The Opportunity

New Energy Nexus is looking for a People & Operations Manager to own the global HR function across our international and dispersed company. Our People & Operations Manager will support our Chief People Officer in improving our human resources strategy and creating processes that grow with our company.

The People & Operations Manager provides expertise in developing, maintaining, and improving HR processes, policies, and systems, and acts as a liaison to the executive team and helps to ensure organizational effectiveness. This role applies best practices to ensure the organization has the tools and resources needed to create an environment that attracts, retains and develops staff.

Reporting functionally to the global Chief People Officer and locally to Managing Director.

The successful candidate will live in or near the New York area.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsible for the HR operations of the organization globally.

  • Together with People team members, design, implement and maintain our people operations programs, processes and policies as needed for Federal and State compliances so we can effectively scale with the company
  • Act as a liaison with our external human resources partners to resolve issues regarding HR and benefits administration, and any HR-related legal concerns
  • Manage day-to-day people operations of the business, including payroll, benefits, time off, contracts, and compliance
  • Collaborate with finance by ensuring hires, terminations and leaves are managed for payroll and time off accrual purposes
  • Own the management of HRIS program, to keep it up-to date and effective. Using the HRIS to create effective reporting and data analysis for the group
  • Act as the main point of contact and support for employee changes including relocation, immigration, leave, and day-to-day support in the US
  • Coordinate with People Team and outside counsel on immigration and visa applications
  • Ensure New Energy Nexus and its teams are safe, compliant, and able to grow effectively
  • Analyze trends within the organization and collaborate with leadership on plans to implement compensation and benefits plans
  • Provide counselling to managers and staff on employee relations matters and policy interpretation from routine to complex

Support in the people development of our organization.

  • Partner with our Chief People Officer to cultivate our unique culture and implement innovative people development programs that support our team
  • Develop and deploy initiatives to drive employee engagement and a strong sense of team across our highly distributed company
  • Serve as a member on the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Council

Responsible for other Operations & board management matters

  • Oversee logistics, prepare (assemble) materials and composes and distribute meeting packets for key people meetings, and both the New Energy Nexus and New Energy Nexus New York Board of Directors meetings
  • Attend Board meetings and compiles the meeting minutes. Manages Board and Committee Relations, including scheduling all the meetings and managing the correspondence with Board/ Committee members
  • Provide support to MD and CEO as needed, on specific projects and in ways that will enhance their effectiveness in their roles
  • Ensure efficient operations of a virtual office, including; staff equipment such as laptops, liaison with external vendors to respond staff service needs and questions as they arise
  • Assist with planning and implementation of office events, meetings and staff trainings (including virtual meetings)

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field required

• 7-9 years of experience as an HR manager

• Must be based in New York

• Demonstrated experience in a non-profit organization

• Ability to collaborate with managers to meet the organizations business goals through effective HR programs

• Experience setting up internal people policies, systems, and procedures in a growing company

• Experience with HR systems, and programs and using them to provide useful information and support to managers and staff

• Knowledgeable on US employment law matters, employment legislation, and compliance management

• Communicate clearly verbal and written HR policies, programs, processes

• Ability to provide solid advice and guidance to managers and staff on any number of confidential HR related matters

• Strong interpersonal skills and a deep ability to understand what motivates others

• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize actions

• Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment, and to juggle several projects with a spirit of flexibility and positive outlook

• Willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done, no matter how big or small

• Ability to write and communicate verbally in a constructive and compelling manner

• Experience in startups a plus

• Experience in global companies a plus

• Demonstrated experience (required) working with a PEO and Board(s) of Directors

• Experience serving on a JEDI Council or Committee
