The Digital Advocacy Associate will join Earthjustice’s Digital Engagement team in the Communications department. The position will support Earthjustice’s digital advocacy and engagement efforts. This individual will focus on advocacy, cultivating and stewarding Earthjustice’s potential and existing audience using digital tools and platforms such as email, web, and SMS. 

Major responsibilities include supporting the Digital Advocacy team to produce digital advocacy campaigns that will be promoted via email and SMS channels to support the goals of the Communications department and other departments across the organization; tracking digital advocacy metrics; following up with supporters and internal stakeholders; organizing and maintaining the digital advocacy content calendar; QA testing on digital advocacy output; helping coordinate campaigns with the Digital Fundraising and Engagement team; assisting with the promotion of digital advocacy campaigns on social media and paid advertising; supporting the Digital Advocacy team to experiment with new digital advocacy tools and tactics. The person should be comfortable with HTML, digital advocacy tools, spreadsheets, analytics, and fundraising. The individual will report to the Senior Digital Advocacy Manager and will work in close coordination with the entire digital team. 

This position is located in San Francisco, CA (preferred), but we're open to remote for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Digital Advocacy campaign production (40 percent)

  • Assist with the creation of all outbound HTML email and SMS communications regarding our programmatic work to existing and potential Earthjustice supporters, including drafting copy for outgoing emails, SMS, action alerts, and autoresponders.
  • Digital platform technical assistance including A|B testing on email and SMS messages; QA checks on outgoing digital advocacy content; advocacy list segmentation.
  • Supports Digital Advocacy team to proactively look on regulations.gov or Earthjustice case updates for potential advocacy campaigns that align with Earthjustice priorities.
  • Manual comment submissions to various government agencies for official comment periods ahead of deadlines.

Email/SMS List Growth and hygiene (25 percent)

  • Support email list growth through paid and unpaid efforts such as partnering with social media team on social campaigns, cross promotions with other organizations, sponsored petitions and advertising campaigns.
  • Work with Digital Advocacy and Digital Fundraising and Engagement team to monitor email deliverability rates, maintain list hygiene, organize various activist list segmentation, and other.
  • Partners with Digital team, marketing team, creative teams, and communication strategists on ways to promote digital advocacy campaigns on social media, various web channels, and paid advertising. 

Documentation & Analysis (20 percent)

  • Generate metrics and populate the digital advocacy dashboard to inform goals and strategic direction and report out to Digital Engagement team on status of those goals.
  • Maintain digital content calendar including tracking existing alerts and keeping them up to date; tracking production process of digital advocacy campaigns and keeping stakeholders on track with deadlines; reporting out performance of various advocacy campaigns to stakeholders.
  • Document all online tests in testing dashboards to help inform future strategies and maximize engagement of our online community.
  • Partner with digital advocacy platform vendor to ensure systems are functioning appropriately.
  • Document digital advocacy procedures and processes and serve as main point person for ongoing education on Digital Advocacy practices.

Stewardship (15 percent)

  • Respond to online inquiries from online supporters.
  • Follow up with supporters to get them further engaged in campaigns (letters to the editor, partner/coalition building).
  • Help writing follow-up messages to supporters on the work they are engaged in.
  • Follow up with internal stakeholders about performance of digital advocacy campaigns and share learnings and best practices.
  • Assist Digital Advocacy team to think through engagement and re-engagement tactics for digital supporters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred. 1+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working in or with a non-profit preferred.
  • Experience with at least one eCRM tool—preferably EveryAction.
  • CRM, HTML and Photoshop experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, HTML and digital tools.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and take on responsibility.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects with a strong attention to detail.
  • Passionate about environmental issues.
  • Strong detail orientation and organizational skills a must.
  • Excellent written and in-person communications skills.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
