The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is comprised of a dedicated team of approximately 210 staff working collaboratively to provide over 70 million pounds of food to over 210,000 people in the Bay Area – a region where 1 in 4 people are at risk of hunger. Join our friendly, collaborative and hardworking development team. We’re looking for a talented professional to fill the position of Interim Director of Organizational Engagement and help lead the coordination of cross-functional teams and initiatives across the organization.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Interim Director of Organizational Engagement is responsible for leading the coordination of cross-functional teams and initiatives across the organization, cross-functional teams, clear and inclusionary decision-making processes, ensuring effective engagement, organization-wide planning and decision making, and assisting the Executive Director with sustaining the organization’s strategic planning and initiatives. The Interim Director of Organizational Engagement will be a key thought partner with the leadership team to strengthen and develop the internal capacity and infrastructure needed to support fundamental organizational transformation and sustained inclusive processes. The Interim Director of Organizational Engagement will be responsible for leading or coordinating several areas of work that are critical to development and implementation of the long-term and short-term strategic direction and goals of the organization. A successful Interim Director of Organizational Engagement will be highly collaborative and an exceptionally strong communicator, master organizer, detailed project manager, and thoughtful relationship manager, with a proven track record in organizational development, leadership development, facilitation, team management, and inclusion practice. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Organizational Development, Transformation, and Change 

  • Empowers broad groups of cross-functional and cross-positional leaders to support organizational development, transformation, and change in service of the mission framework and organizational values   

  • Supports the development, training, and mobilization of these internal cross-functional and cross-positional teams, including supporting leadership development, team training, meeting coordination and facilitation support 

  • Ensures that all cross-functional teams are empowered to create and maintain their own clear charter, that they have the necessary support and resources to be successful 

  • Supports ongoing recruitment of diverse, organization-wide representation on the cross-functional and cross-positional teams 

  • Makes connections across cross-functional teams and initiatives as needed, including troubleshooting any challenges 

  • Works in partnership with other leaders to encourage and cultivate meaningful organizational culture change and ensures that the senior leadership team and people managers are well informed on the ongoing work of the teams supporting organizational development, transformation, and change 

  • Provides successful change management leadership around organizational development and transformation initiatives 

Strategic Planning 

  • Supports a successful strategic planning process by partnering with Chief Strategy Officer to: 

  • Develops an inclusive planning processes and ensure thoughtful change management relative to the organization’s strategic priorities.  

  • Collaborates with staff, leadership, and board to support execution of the process. 

  • Supports the communication and implementation of the Food Bank’s strategy internally and externally so that all employees and the board of directors understand the organization-wide strategic plan. 

  • Partners with leadership, special committees, and consultants to support execution of key initiatives. 

  • Monitors and measures the organization’s success relative to the strategic plan. 

Annual Planning 

  • Supports the execution of the organization’s annual planning process, partnering closely with the Chief Strategy Officer and Director of Transformation and Analytics to coordinate leaders across the organization to establish, share, and measure success relative to the annual plans.  

  • Works closely with leaders across the organization to develop and deliver on the strategic objectives of the organization.  

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills (e.g., emails, memos, slide decks). 
  • Builds trusting relationships with leadership team, staff, the board of directors, and external stakeholders 
  • Capable of juggling multiple priorities, effectively delegating, and delivering timeline results in a fast-paced environment with clear team communications 
  • Strong knowledge of operational systems and structures for facilitating collaboration within a dynamic organization 
  • Ability to grasp, translate and operationalize big strategic ideas into measurable goals and plans  
  • Strong analytical abilities in order to identify organizational strengths and weaknesses and determine areas for improvement and growth 
  • Excellent project management skills to oversee the execution of initiatives, either independently or in conjunction with a team 
  • Strong organizational leadership, development and strategic thinking skills 
  • Creative, curious, and collaborative approach to problem-solving 
  • A strong generalist, with experience in wide-ranging or cross-functional areas, and an eagerness to learn new skills 
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 5+ years relevant non-profit leadership experience or comparable for-profit chief of staff experience 
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience leading organizational development strategies and initiatives 
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experiencing leading change management initiatives and plans 
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or initiatives at organizations or companies with more than 150 employees 
  • Experience leading strategic planning and annual planning 
  • Commitment to gender/racial/social justice values.  
  • Familiarity with Food Banks, anti-hunger issues a plus

FINGER DEXTERITY: Requires typing on standard computer. 

TALKING: Ability to speak on phone and face to face. 

HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive                                                                             ordinary information.

REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Frequent and regular movements using the wrists, hands, and fingers. 

AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES:  Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to view computer screens and documents. 

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:  No physical strength requirement. 

COMMUNICATION AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to interpret instructions. 

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:  Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs. 

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Fluency in English. Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.
