The Program Manager will join our small start-up nonprofit organization to support our Leap Year Fellows’ in their reading tutoring, college classes, and career goals. They are responsible for ensuring that over the course of the year, our Fellows are successful in improving the literacy skills of our second-grade students’, while performing well in their college classes, and learning the professional skills they will need for future careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work daily with Leap Year Fellows to oversee their service as reading coaches; help Fellows ensure that their second-grade students achieve significant growth as a result of their tutoring; provide training and oversee Fellows’ implementation of program curriculum; ensure the positive and inclusive culture of Leap Year is embodied in the programming.
  • Tutor, guide, and support Fellows during their credit-bearing English and math classes at GSU to ensure that Fellows succeed in their first college classes; teach basic college level academic knowledge such as writing essays, time management, study, and organizational skills; prepare Fellows to pass the Accuplacer college entrance exam for Georgia State University – Perimeter; help Fellows overcome the social-emotional challenges they will face during their hard work in our intensive programming.
  • Implement our college and career readiness curriculum (and create curriculum to supplement ours when needed) which includes, but is not limited to, readings and discussions, presentations, debates, and team and individual projects; help Fellows prepare for transition to college by supporting completion of college applications, FAFSA; organize career exploration trips, guest speakers, team building activities, and fun trips and outings; meet with Fellows’ parents for update meetings; provide outreach and support to alumnae Fellows on their journey through college.
  • Drive Fellows to and from the elementary school in the Leap Year van; print and organize lesson materials; serve as an onsite resource working with school staff to ensure smooth running of the program; ensure Fellows do not participate in prohibited activities; take daily notes documenting program effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Senior Program Manager to prepare Fellows to successfully tutor by leading lesson prep time, creating classroom management trainings, observing and providing feedback on Fellows tutoring; train and oversee Fellows on professionalism; serve as a role model and social-emotional resource to Fellows.
  • Support and oversee aspects of the recruitment process by building relationships with local high school leadership, teachers, and counselors; give presentations to high school staff and students on the program; oversee Fellow application, admission, and enrollment process by soliciting, reviewing, interviewing, and following up with applicants. Provide administrative and project management support to the Leap Year team as needed; support the Leap Year team’s efforts for program growth, visibility, and fundraising; support and fill in for colleagues when needed.

Position Details

Tentative start date: August 2nd, 2021 – May 31st, 2022

Tentative schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm, occasional evening and weekend work required; full-time staff receive 10 paid personal days/year plus paid program/holiday breaks

Salary: $3,500 per month
