The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Development Specialist to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 200,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead and take initiative in supporting fundraising activities from all sources (sponsors, donors, legislative)
- Cultivate and steward external relationships to increase financial donations
- Assist with planning and execution of fundraising events
- Work directly with management and development team to manage project workflow and oversee day to day milestones for projects including maintaining an accurate donor database and following proper procedures
Predominant Tasks
- Research and identify prospective new individual, corporate, and foundation donors; proactively initiate sponsorship and funding; and cultivate relationships to sustain longterm giving
- Drive for sustainable funding sources for operating, project, and exhibit strategies
- Maintain Development database for all data entry, gift processing, reports and recording of accurate interactions with donors and donor information
- Develop, achieve, and surpass fundraising goals that support the museum’s day to day operations and longterm financial sustainability
- Assist grantwriter with research, preparation and submission of grant applications to private and corporate foundations and governmental entities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
Experience
- Three years+ of Development experience in nonprofit organization
- Major gift solicitation experience
- Familiarity with grant writing (25% success rate) and external relationships with all levels of leadership amongst industry, civic, and private individuals
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, being able to manage dashboards/metrics, reporting, flowcharting, and digital communications
- Ability to use various donor database software
- Project Management
