The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is comprised of a dedicated team of approximately 210 staff working collaboratively to provide over 50 million pounds of food to over 210,000 people in the Bay Area – a region where 1 in 4 people are at risk of hunger. Join our friendly, collaborative and hardworking development team. We’re looking for a talented fundraising professional to fill the position of Manager, Donor Insights and help support department-wide efforts to provide every donor an exceptional experience, while continually uncovering supporters who may be interested in deepening their partnership with the Food Bank.

POSITION PURPOSE

As a core member of an integrated department with a commitment to excellence, the Manager, Donor Insights is responsible for supporting department-wide efforts to provide every donor an exceptional experience, while continually uncovering supporters who may be interested in deepening their partnership with the Food Bank. The Manager collaborates closely with frontline fundraisers across the department to understand donor motivations, interests, and needs and create opportunities to enhance the donor experience. The Manager identifies ‘assets’ available throughout the organization and supports teams in delivering them to the right donors in the right way at the right time. The Manager coordinates closely with the other members of the team to streamline donor segmentation strategies and to leverage segmentation for donor cultivation and stewardship. The ideal candidate combines an innovative approach to donor engagement with expertise in designing streamlined stewardship systems. Candidate should be a strategic, creative thinker with extraordinary attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Donor Data Segmentation

  • Support the implementation of an overarching donor segmentation framework for the department, in collaboration with department and channel leaders.
  • Oversee a seamless upgrade/downgrade process to move donors between segments, ensuring accurate and clean data to meet all cultivation/stewardship demands
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Donor Data Analytics to continually enhance the data integrity of high-touch segments, such as donors in portfolios, middle giving, and sustainers
  • Support the Special Events Manager on event list management and day-of registration processes.
  • Oversee cross-team mailing lists, such as event invitations and annual report.

Portfolio Quality

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Donor Data Analytics to develop and implement a system of routinely wealth-screening incoming donors to identity high-potential donors to prioritize in middle, major, and institutional giving programs.
  • Analyze and interpret wealth-screening results.
  • Create systems to conduct a quarterly/semi-annual/annual portfolio quality review to ensure that all highest-potential donors are in a portfolio and receiving personalized touchpoints at least monthly.
  • Collaborate with leaders and fundraisers to continually enhance portfolio quality.

Prospect Research

  • Oversee prospect research services for the department, ensuring frontline fundraisers have ready access to information needed to manage relationships.

Gift Acknowledgement & Recognition

  • Lead the department in continually elevating and streamlining gift acknowledgement and recognition
  • Collaborate with department leaders to regularly update and refine acknowledgement letter templates
  • Support special acknowledgement and recognition opportunities, such as leadership and volunteer thank yous, as needed
  • Manage department annual donor recognition data and lists.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive inventory of naming opportunities, including named and unnamed pieces.

Donor Engagement Support

  • Support the maintenance and ongoing review of the department-wide master calendar of upcoming events and donor engagement opportunities.
  • Provide lists and other support, as needed, to support the delivery of high-touch experiences, such as special impact reports, naming opportunities, cultivation events, and other mission experiences.
  • Proactively identify and share engagement opportunities available across the organization to enrich the donor experience.
  • Create a system for tracking personalized stewardship report needs and due dates and collaborate with major gifts officers to create and deliver them.

  • Manage relationships with external prospect research vendors to maintain high level of service for fundraisers.
  • Project-manage incoming requests and their fulfillment.
  • Develop strategy, guidelines, and processes for prospect research and donor reports

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 4-6 years professional experience and demonstrated success in a relationship-based fundraising program.
  • Excellent understanding of industry best practices in donor relations and prospect research.
  • Excellent database and analytical abilities, with experience in Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communications skills; must be comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work independently under deadline, juggle multiple priorities and maintain a professional work style.
  • Excellent project-management skills.
  • Superb attention to detail and superior data entry skills.
  • Must possess excellent judgement with confidential and sensitive data.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekend events as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising platforms, such as Engaging Networks.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Your employment relationship with the SFMFB will be governed by the general employment policies and practices of the SFMB and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between SFMFB and OPEIU, LOCAL 29, OFFICE AND PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION.

ENVIRONMENT: Standard office / Warehouse

FINGER DEXTERITY: Requires typing on standard computer. 

TALKING: Ability to speak on phone and face to face. 

HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive                                                                             ordinary information.

REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Frequent and regular movements using the wrists, hands, and fingers. 

AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES:  Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to view computer screens and documents. 

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:  No physical strength requirement. 

COMMUNICATION AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to interpret instructions. 

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:  Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs. 

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Fluency in English. Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.

SALARY:   $66,019 starting
