Job summary: The Strategic Communications Manager will lead GHF’s communications, marketing, and public relations efforts. The Manager will effectively deploy traditional & new communications strategies to advance GHF’s advocacy campaigns, produce trustworthy and compelling content that promote our mission, and grow GHF’s digital advocacy footprint. The ideal candidate will be a proactive member of the team, leading strategies to build, cultivate, and mobilize GHF's target audiences, while collaborating with other members of the GHF staff to plan and coordinate. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop communication strategies for both internal and external audiences, media pitches, and GHF's brand awareness  As part of larger advocacy campaigns, develop & carry out communications strategies that build towards the overall campaign goal and are in coordination with other strategies Manage social media content and grow followers on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram Write, develop, review, and edit a broad spectrum of communications materials, including newsletters, fact sheets, issue briefs, infographics, press releases, websites, social media, talking points, and presentations.  Work with GHF staff and board members on planning, coordinating, and directing all of GHF's marketing, communications, digital advocacy, event registration, and audience development Engage GHF digital audiences for outreach and educational programs, advocacy campaigns, and fundraising events Maintain and increase GHF's subscriber and advocate base through subscription campaigns and regular communication with subscribers through weekly emails, monthly newsletters, and other methods Integrate racial equity into communications activities, messages, and deliverables across projects and advocacy campaigns Oversee cultivation and management of media relationships to help shape news coverage Track current events and news on a variety of health policy and political topics pertaining to GHF's work, including Medicaid, private market health insurance reforms (including the Affordable Care Act), delivery system reform, health equity, public health, and the political landscapes of Georgia and the U.S. Analyze, track, and report on social media engagement, advertising, and marketing/PR efforts to determine the effectiveness of strategies used and recommend and execute future action Create, manage and maintain a quarterly communications content calendar for GHF's social media, emails, newsletters, advocacy campaigns, blogs

General Duties

  • Participate in weekly internal and external meetings Serve as a member of GHF staff by participating in special events, and select board meetings Mentor and manage the work of a dedicated communications intern 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field Strong planning, project management, and interpersonal skills Excellent writer with strong editing and oral communications skills 5+ years experience in Communications and Marketing  Experience managing and updating websites in a WordPress environment or equivalent. Experience with a Customer Relations Management (CRM) platform  Demonstrated commitment to race equity, and social and economic justice 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • A proven writer with sound judgment having experience producing high-quality content tailored for specific audiences.  Demonstrated creativity in the design of marketing, public relations, or educational programs and communications materials. Knowledge of health policy and familiarity with the Georgia policy environment

 

Working Conditions

Works in general office environment and occasionally travels to other facilities and venues where meetings are held. Some evening or weekend hours may be required. Limited travel in Georgia and to national meetings/conferences will be required. 

While GHF’s office is located at 50 Hurt Plaza SE, Suite 806, Atlanta, GA 30303, the Strategic Communications Manager does not necessarily need to be based in the metro-Atlanta area. Location is flexible, with the understanding that the Manager will be required to travel to GHF’s office at times. 

 

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this full-time position is $50,000-$58,000, depending on experience. Medical, dental, and vision insurance will be provided.
