THE DEPARTMENT/DIVISION
The Law Department is comprised of a County Attorney, two Deputy County Attorneys, seven Senior Assistant County Attorneys, and a professional legal clerical staff. The County Attorney reports directly to the Board of Commissioners and is the legal advisor and representative of the County.
THE POSITION
The position of Senior Assistant County Attorney will primarily be working with claims and state court litigation, including Section 1983 federal litigation, as well as other duties as assigned under the general supervision of a Deputy County Attorney.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctorate and 5 or more years of experience as an attorney;
- Litigation and courtroom experience as a first chair attorney;
- Member in good standing of the Georgia Bar and admitted to practice in the Superior Courts of Georgia, United States District Court, Court of Appeals for the State of Georgia, Supreme Court of Georgia and other courts as necessary;
- Substantial experience working as a local government attorney;
- Excellent writing skills.

- Applying laws, rules and regulations;
- Analyzing complex information;
- Mediating conflict;

- Preparing legal documents;
- Presenting legal arguments in support of legal positions;
- Conducting trials, hearings, and proceedings;
- Conducting legal research;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
