About the Position

The Associate Director of Business & Program Development is responsible for the growth and stewardship of the Milken Institute’s corporate giving portfolio supporting Milken Institute’s Centers and programs in health and finance. This position works closely with business development and Center colleagues at the Milken Institute to foster productive relationships with funders to expand the organization’s network, reach, resources, and social impact.

In addition, this role coordinates with the Business & Program Development team in Santa Monica on planning, support and execution of Milken Institute-wide development strategy to meet goals across programs and events, including the annual Global Conference, the Future of Health Summit and other regional summits.

Centers and programs of the Institute include FasterCures, the Center for Public Health, the Center for the Future of Aging, the Center for Financial Markets, the Center for Regional Economics, the Center for Strategic Philanthropy, and Feeding Change.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with corporate funders in alignment with MI Center and program focus areas, including health and finance.
  • Develop and effectively articulate the value proposition for event and program sponsorship, including:
  • Identifying corporate prospects
  • Developing written and oral proposals
  • Conducting and closing solicitations
  • Managing sponsor/funder acknowledgement and retention
  • Updating our internal relationship management tracker, Salesforce.
  • Support Center and program corporate fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Business and Program development team. Activities include:
  • Coordinating Business Council memberships and annual donations
  • Researching new funding opportunities and larger partnerships for programmatic support
  • Collaborating with Center leadership on an ongoing basis on long range and strategic planning to set budget and fundraising goals, including providing analysis of funding models and processes
  • Establish fundraising metrics and track progress
  • With oversight from Business and Program Development leadership, lead program specific event sponsorship strategy and funding goals, including:
  • Managing the funding pipeline
  • Conducting outreach to Center funders
  • Coordinating all cross-center sponsorship conversations and asks
  • Communicating with the other centers about their ongoing conversations
  • Remaining up-to-date on the event program and agenda
  • Providing logistical support & training across the centers, including processing of proposals, contracts and invoices.
  • Maintain working knowledge of MI program areas and activities to facilitate connections between sponsoring organizations’ content experts and MI staff.
  • Support business development opportunities across Milken Institute centers and events.
  • Cultivate cross-center collaboration on partnership opportunities and support ongoing multi-center relationships focused on our programs and events.
  • Communicate across teams to ensure an effective and timely dissemination of information about new & existing funding relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience fundraising for non-profit programs, projects and/or events
  • Track record of successfully cultivating and closing funding
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven project management and leadership skill set
  • Comfortable with public speaking, either in small meeting setting or with large audiences
  • Ability to remain proactive, level headed, highly organized, and detail-oriented across multiple areas of focus
  • Flexibility to take on new opportunities, expand portfolio and adapt to internal and external environment
  • Multitasker able to handle complex projects in a fast-paced environment, requiring ability to effectively prioritize and respond promptly to internal and external communications
  • Innovative problem-solver who can generate workable solutions and resolve issues
  • Motivated self-starter displaying high productivity and follow-through in all areas of responsibility
  • Strong ability to work with people and interact positively with all levels of an organization
  • Technically savvy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Salesforce

Note: Temporarily, due to COVID-19 this position is currently working remotely, you will be expected to physically be in one of our office locations September 7, 2021 the date of return to the office is subject to federal and local state guidelines. In addition, you will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
