About the Position

The Senior Associate, Institutional Giving on the Business & Program Development team supports the foundation, corporate, and government grants portfolio of the Milken Institute. This position works closely with business development and colleagues at the Milken Institute to foster productive relationships with institutional funders to expand the Milken Institute’s social impact, resources, reach, and network, with specific focus on the organization’s Centers and programs.

Centers and programs of the Institute include FasterCures, the Center for Public Health, the Center for the Future of Aging, the Center for Financial Markets, the Center for Regional Economics, the Center for Strategic Philanthropy, and Feeding Change.

This position will report to the Associate Director, Institutional Giving and work closely with the Business & Program Development team to pursue grant opportunities and funding from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individuals to meet the Milken Institute’s fundraising goals. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Institutional Giving, the Senior Associate is responsible for securing and administering grants through effective research, proposal development, submission, stewardship, deliverable tracking, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • With oversight from the Associate Director, Institutional Giving, create LOIs, proposals, and reports across the institutional giving portfolio in alignment with the Institute’s Center and program priorities
  • Ensure that all proposals and reports are complete, well-written, reviewed by relevant stakeholders, and submitted on-time as required by the funder.
  • Steward active grants including deliverable tracking and management, supporting deliverable development where needed (ie, event support, publications review, etc.)
  • Represent the institutional giving team in meetings with Centers and Programs across the Institute, and build strong relationships with program staff
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with program officers and funder contacts through virtual and in-person meetings, calls, and email correspondence
  • Generate new leads for the grants portfolio by conducting thoughtful prospect research and tracking well-aligned foundation, corporate, and government RFPs
  • Work across the Business and Program Development team to meet institutional giving cultivation and stewardship needs
  • Manage the institutional giving portfolio data within the Milken Institute’s existing systems (Salesforce, MI Grid, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Coordinate with the Business & Program Development team on Milken Institute event needs, including opportunities for funder stewardship and prospect cultivation
  • Adhere to the Institute’s mission, policies, and general safety practices, including any unique safety practices for the department and/or building
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in grant writing, support and/or management (or comparable area of work)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective project management skills
  • A proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented and hard-working professional
  • Multitasker able to handle complex projects in a fast-paced environment, requiring ability to effectively prioritize and respond promptly to internal and external communications
  • Innovative problem-solver who can generate workable solutions and resolve issues
  • Motivated self-starter displaying high productivity and follow-through in all areas of responsibility
  • Strong ability to work with people and interact positively with all levels of an organization
  • Technically savvy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Salesforce

Note: Temporarily, due to COVID-19 this position is currently working remotely, you will be expected to physically be in one of our office locations September 7, 2021 the date of return to the office is subject to federal and local state guidelines. In addition, you will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
