JOB DESCRIPTION 

In tandem with the Assistant Director, Annual Giving & Direct Marketing, the Development Associate works on all aspects of the direct appeals programs, which help sustain and increase annual support through the Lucile Packard Children's Fund. They also help execute solicitations to and stewardship of high-end mid-level giving donors ($10,000-$100,000) and liaises with Annual Giving and other field officers on staff. The Development Associate must be very comfortable and efficient using Raiser's Edge and Excel, as this role spends a significant amount of time in these programs to create accurate mailing lists, develop strategies, generate appeal performance reports, and more.

The position will report to the Assistant Director, Annual Giving and Direct Marketing and will work closely with the Development Assistant, Annual Giving/Children's Fund.

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Specific Responsibilities

40% High-End Mid-Level Giving

  • Execute effective direct solicitation and stewardship strategies for high-end annual donors ($10,000-$100,000) with minimal supervision and increasing responsibility as skills progress (2-6 internal mailings).
  • Manage and refine quarterly comprehensive review process of individual donor strategy between Direct Marketing, Annual Giving officers, and other field officers.
  • Help develop direction and copy for letters and additional collateral.
  • Compile and manipulate data using Raiser's Edge (queries, exports) and Excel.
  • Contribute to overall strategy for mass-marketing efforts, year-end campaign, and annual giving rebranding.
  • Gather feedback on processes with the intent to maximize and improve.

30% Direct Appeals Program

  • Help execute direct appeal program (appeals under $10,000) based on industry standards and results analysis (10-20 external mailings).
  • Help edit content and layout for appeals and collateral, contributing to overall strategy.
  • Exercise discretion on highly confidential and sensitive information while maintaining excellent relationships with third-party consultants, outside vendors, and Foundation and Hospital staff.
  • Help with administrative work between direct marketing team and third-party consulting firm (scheduling, adding and uploading appeal codes in Raiser's Edge, reviewing proofs, etc.)

30% Other

  • Act as resource to Development Assistant and an additional support to colleagues for special annual giving appeals (i.e. Auxiliary groups).
  • Track the current year's team budget, draft next year's budget with senior support, and process expense reimbursements for team members.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure pieces fit within Foundation's communication and gift processing efforts, recommending new approaches to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Update donor information in Raiser's Edge (i.e. managing 'do not contact' lists, membership lists, Board affiliation).

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of development and/or marketing experience or a similar field.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, and/or a proven ability to become highly proficient at comprehensive databases and reporting systems, including data manipulation and analysis.

  • Writing and Editing: Ability to produce strong communication through mastery of grammar, spelling, and content structure. Ability to review and edit collateral drafts (e.g. solicitations, brochures, stewardship letters, etc.). Ability to organize and visually display information and data.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to work independently in a team environment. Ability to adapt quickly to changes without losing energy. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Relationship Builder and Clear Communicator: Ability to communicate verbally in clear, linear and concise way. Ability to communicate collaboratively with diverse population groups (constituents, hospital staff, vendors, etc.). High level of self-awareness, humility, interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Knowledge of constituent relationship management database systems (Raiser’s Edge), including data manipulation and analysis. Advanced knowledge of Raiser’s Edge. Advanced computer skills, including high level of proficiency in entire Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.

  • Advanced knowledge of constituent relationship management database systems (Raiser’s Edge).
  • Experience in project management.
  • An understanding of the use of direct mail to generate and sustain annual support.
  • An understanding of a successful mid-level program.
  • Advanced computer skills, including high level of proficiency in entire Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
