The Opportunity
Turning Leaf is hiring a Program Manager for our new location which will open in Columbia, SC in October 2021. Three months of hands-on training will take place at our Charleston office prior to program launch. This key position is responsible for supervising the clinical aspects of the program, including daily cognitive behavioral group classes, individualized case management, and in-house training in the program’s screen-printing business. The Columbia-based Program Manager will work in close coordination with the Charleston-based Program Manager, as well as supervise the Classroom Facilitator and Peer Specialist. The position reports to the Executive Director.

About Us
Working with men returning home from prison who are at the highest risk of re-arrest, Turning Leaf combines behavioral therapy (CBT), one-on-one counseling, on-site transitional employment, and job placement to offer a proven model of prison reentry with an 80% success rate. We’re small – eight staff total – but we’re growing fast. We currently operate in Charleston, SC with the plan of expanding to two additional South Carolina cities over the next three years.
The atmosphere is laid back and casual, but there is an expectation of high performance. We take training and continuous improvement seriously and are always looking for opportunities to get better. We embrace change. Things don’t stay the same around here for very long.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
Program Delivery
• Work directly with program participants (referred to as “students”) to address a wide of variety of needs and behavioral challenges.
• Train and provide daily guidance and feedback to the Classroom Facilitator, Print Shop Manager, and Peer Specialist in their delivery of therapeutic and supportive services.
• Conduct intake assessments, orientation, and onboarding new students.
• Facilitate CBT classes when needed and monitor classes for quality and adherence to program guidelines.
• Coordinate and run weekly meeting(s) between all program staff to ensure cohesive delivery of therapeutic services.
• Monitor program enrollment and capacity to determine new student recruitment strategies.
• Ensure accurate and timely data entry as it relates to student needs, participation, and outcomes.

Job Development
• Assist students with locating educational, vocational, and permanent employment opportunities.
• In coordination with the Center Coordinator, serve as a point of contact for potential job partners.
• Track student progress and success rates post-placement.

Community Outreach                                                                                                                                                • Make community referrals to address other needs, such as medical, mental health, and identification.
• Liaison with the Office of Probation and Parole, SCDC, and court system to advance program services in the community.
• Identify and form partnerships with community agencies to increase resources available to students.

Qualifications
Required for Your Success
• University degree in a related subject or 3+ years of experience in a related field.
• Knowledge of client groups, group facilitation and/or issues related to prison reentry and rehabilitation.
• Proven ability to develop caring relationship with high-risk clients.
• Strong aptitude for improving clinical knowledge and willingness to apply what’s learned in a real-world context.
• Understands principles of cognitive behavioral therapy as it relates to behavior change.
• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, moving about to accomplish tasks, ability to perform work of medium effort that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds, communicating with others to exchange information.
• Valid SC driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email and internet.

Additional Helpful Experience
• Background in teaching or counseling.
• Skilled in motivational interviewing and/or an understanding of core correctional practices.
• Knowledge of appropriate, high-quality resources available to clients in the Columbia, SC area.
• Ability to identify issues related to mental and physical health and/or substance abuse that put the client at risk for program failure.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Ability to meet goals in an unstructured environment.

Compensation
