Veteran’s Empowerment Organization of Georgia’s mission is to provide housing, supportive wrap around services, job training and placement to Veterans on their journey to an empowered life. The 2020 Annual Budget of VEO is $2,600,000.  Since its founding, VEO has served more than 6,000 homeless veterans. VEO offers Veterans facilities with wrap-around services at no cost to the veteran.

 

Homeless veterans need an interwoven approach that provides a safety net of housing, meals, health care, substance abuse aftercare and mental health counseling in addition to job assessment, training and placement assistance. VEO offers a continuum of care that includes immediate and long-term housing, treatment and recovery for addiction, food, and clothing, as well as healthcare, mental health counseling and job training and placement. VEO is in the process of expanding their housing program to include veterans and their families.

 

VEO is seeking an ambitious, dynamic and highly-motivated Volunteer and Development Specialist to lead and grow the organization’s development operations.  The Volunteer and Development Specialist will be a high-energy individual with a passion for the mission of VEO. They will manage large Corporate Volunteers and individual volunteers, the donor database, annual fund, donor relations, cultivation and assist with two events each year.  This individual will grow the donor base by thinking creatively about prospect identification, as well as by leveraging board members, staff and other VEO resources to attract and engage new donors. This position shall serve as a spokesperson, market the organization and raise revenue.  This position will report to the Executive Director and the Director of Compliance, this position is based in Atlanta, GA.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  •          Assist with the execution of the organization’s annual fundraising plan and strategy for raising short- and long-term support from individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  •          Assist with the implementation, organization and tracking of all short- and long-term fundraising plans, timelines, events, campaigns and goals for all constituencies in accordance with standard fundraising principles.
  •          Develop and oversee the implementation of effective cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and development communications strategies in order to expand the prospect and donor base, while maintaining and deepening relationships with current supporters.
  •          Management of donor database, keeping all information current and ensuring gift acknowledgements are produced in a timely fashion. 
  •          Monitor industry trends and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.
  •          Coordinate and secure inkind donations.
  •          Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditures related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities.
  •          Work with communications professionals to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to promote VEO to its donors and maximize public awareness of the activities of the organization. 
  •          Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals for development efforts.
  •          Manage large Corporate Volunteer groups and individual volunteers, scheduling the groups, planning their activities, and all appropriate follow up communication. 
  •          Exhibit respect for, and excellent service to, donors, clients, staff and all supporters of the organization through prompt, courteous, and informative communication.
  •          Embrace a mission-driven, cohesive, and supportive attitude within the organization.
  •          Responsible to provide material for agency monthly newsletter and clients success story.
  •          Maintain professionalism in all departmental activities and outreach while promoting confidentiality of privileged information.

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

2 to 5 years of fundraising or transferable experience in a grass roots, non-profit organization, with a successful fundraising record; knowledge and understanding of the Atlanta philanthropic community desired.

Ability to successfully implement systems and processes that will increase operational efficiency.

Ambitious, innovative, and collaborative approach to development strategies and practices.

Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with coworkers, donors, prospects, and high-net-worth individuals; must have especially strong written, oral, and listening skills.

Kind and confident demeanor with the ability to connect with diverse constituencies and sell the mission of the organization.

Creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit; someone who is willing to try new ideas and think “outside the box,” and who will motivate their team to do the same. Must thrive in a fast-paced environment.
