The National Women’s Law Center seeks a Research Fellow to work on qualitative and quantitative research focusing on the Center’s program areas: reproductive rights and health, workplace justice, education, income security, and child care. The Research Fellow should have experience conducting research in one or more of these areas, or a related issue, such as gender or racial justice, and be able to quickly assess existing research gaps and develop new projects with a high level of organization and attention to detail.

  • Work with NWLC program team partners to assess existing research gaps, update prior analyses, and innovate new qualitative and quantitative research projects.
  • Gather and analyze large datasets from a variety of government and other sources using Excel or STATA.
  • Draft and fact check written products for publication, including reports, fact sheets, blog posts, and other written materials.
  • Review and fact check other research team members’ research projects.
  • Work with marketing and communications team to develop social media content, press releases, and other communications for research projects.


A candidate must possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, statistics, or related field;
  • Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative research skills and experience conducting data analysis.
  • Experience conducting research in one or more of the following areas: gender justice, racial justice, reproductive rights and health, workplace justice, education, income security, child care, LGBTQ+ equality, or a related issue.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex research findings clearly and effectively.
  • Experience analyzing Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, or other government datasets.
  • Proficiency in Excel and SPSS, STATA, or related statistical software.
  • High level of organization and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Additional preferred skills and knowledge:

  • A master’s degree in public policy, economics, statistics, or related field.
  • Ability to work independently but also collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to approach research questions creatively.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working on gender and racial equity and centering communities of color in their approach to work.

Key Relationships

The Research Fellow reports to the Director of Research. In addition to collaborating with members of the Research Team, the Research Fellow will work closely with members of NWLC’s program and Marketing and Communications teams.
