From being thought partners for organizations as they think through and build campaigns to hosting workshops and facilitating idea-generation, we’re about bolstering efforts to win racial economic liberation and build political power. We aim to add to and reinforce local, state, and national coalitions, not assume leadership or wrestle power from the people leading them. Overview

Liberation in a Generation (LibGen) is looking for an experienced campaigner (issues based/electoral), coalition builder, and team leader to drive our grassroots support work as the new Grassroots Relationships Manager (the Manager). The Manager will lead our programmatic support to grassroots organizations: outlining and analyzing transformative policy solutions, supporting coalitions, developing and delivering popular education materials, and building and running campaigns that will deliver economic liberation to Black, Indigenous, Latinx and low-income Asian people, in one generation. The position oversees two Partnerships Coordinators and reports directly to the Director of Grassroots Relationships.

The ideal candidate has experience in leading issue based and electoral campaigns. They are an effective and equitable leader that values team expertise and input, and effectively highlights their team’s strengths. They possess exceptional communication and people skills, and have experience in forging strong organizational relationships. They are interested in using their talents to strengthen the ability of grassroots organizations to achieve bold transformative policy wins on racial and economic justice issues. Successful candidates will have previous community organizing, policy advocacy, adult education and managerial experience. 

Role and Responsibilities

Liberation in a Generation is a movement support organization aiming to totally transform the economy to serve and benefit people of color. We believe that this new economy should be led and directed by groups who are building power among people of color. The Grassroots Relationships Manager will be responsible for overseeing the programmatic operations of LibGen’s collaborations with grassroots organizations. The Manager will ensure that Liberation in a Generation is deepening and evaluating our current partnerships, and will carry out strategic plans for growth to additional organizations. 

The Manager will be responsible for:

Strategy:

• Supporting the Director of Grassroots Relationships in systematizing how we engage with, and the type of support we provide to, partners.
• Using your areas of expertise to help shape LibGen’s Grassroots work and areas of focus.
• Supporting the development of LibGen’s PopEd curriculum and materials.
• Actively creating, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with grassroots organizations focusing, or looking to focus, on racial economic justice work.
• Writing detailed scopes of work and MOUs that outline our collaboration with partners.
• Advising the Director of Grassroots Relationships as he and the Co-executive Director forge new relationships and bodies of work.

Implementation:

• Overseeing the day-to-day execution of scopes of work and MOUs, track progress to goal, make necessary strategic decisions and adjustments informed by experience and feedback (from grassroots partners and LibGen staff).
• Coordinating and informing the development and implementation of organizing tactics that support our partner’s goals (electoral, issue based, base building).
• Delivering LibGen PopEd modules and visioning sessions.
• Supporting internal capacity audits and resources assessments.
• Supporting local, state and federal landscape, policy and budget analysis through a racial lens.
• Supporting policy platform visioning, development, buy-in creation, strategizing, and campaign execution.
• Train grassroots partner staff and allies on LibGen’s framework and support the development of spokespeople/trainers.
• Conducting visits to our partners, as necessary, to better inform how to best support their policy, advocacy, and campaign efforts.
• Directly supervise, train, coach, and develop work plans for a team of two Partnerships Coordinators.

Requirements

The candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years of managerial or leadership experience in the policy advocacy space. They must be able to build and lead staff teams through numerous multifaceted bodies of work. There is a preference for candidates with a background in grassroots organizations / direct community organizing. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in public policy, social work, sociology or similar field.

Qualifications

• Must have a demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice.
• Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in public policy advocacy or community organizing, in a managerial or leadership capacity.
• Must have experience designing and delivering popular education to adults.
• Must have experience building and managing a team.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and make sound decisions regarding time-sensitive communications.
• High level of comfort working remotely and independently. Organizing and tracking email, maintaining an online filing and folder storage system.
• Ability to maintain regular check-ins with supervisors, supervisees, and the entire team regarding workload/capacity, priorities, and any challenges or difficulties with assignments.
• Ability to take initiative, use good judgment, and ask questions as needed.

Work Environment 

• Position is 100% remote. 
• This position requires travel when conditions allow.

Position Type

The Grassroots Team Manager is a full-time (100% FTE) exempt position.

Compensation

PolicyLink offers competitive salaries based on the experience and skills of employees.  The starting salary range for the position is $80,000 - $100,000, dependent on experience. Additionally, PolicyLink provides an excellent and comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k match, ancillary benefits, access to Flexible Spending Accounts, commuter expenses, and generous leave benefits.
