Job Title: Development Manager

Category: Full Time

Status: Salary / Exempt 

PURPOSE:  To administer and coordinate the development efforts of the organization and create a culture of philanthropy and engagement internally and externally. Plan, implement, and set priorities for the organization’s development efforts in consultation with Chief Executive Officer and appropriate volunteers/committees. Provide management and training to staff and key volunteers. Plan, coordinate and implement strategies to develop and engage donors. Participate in relevant community activities to help promote the organization’s mission and programs. Maintain detailed donor records to ensure proper recognition and stewardship. Maintain accountability and compliance standards to ensure appropriate use of restricted funds. Recommend departmental and organizational policies and procedures.    

MAJOR DUTIES:  

  • Design, implement and manage all fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, planned giving, special projects, special events, and other community related activities. 
  • Keep informed of developments in philanthropy and inform key staff and volunteers on current trends, issues, problems, and activities.  
  • Develop and manage all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and recognition. 
  • Implement fundraising initiatives to increase individual giving, donor retention, average gift size, and gift frequency.  
  • Create innovative corporate sponsorship packages and solicit corporate gifts with Atlanta-based companies, including corporate event and program sponsorships, cause-related marketing partnerships, annual giving, employee giving, advertising and in-kind contributions.  
  • Provide management and guidance to the team responsible for donor operations including acknowledgement process, technology decisions and ensuring best practices are implemented and upheld.  
  • Provide high-level leadership on all special events; ensure excellent execution of details, achievement of fundraising goals and positive donor, sponsor, and participant experiences.  
  • Perform basic donor research and manage prospect process.  
  • Manage department staff, volunteers and committees.  
  • Help develop a balanced mix of contributors (companies, individuals, foundations, etc) tailored to meet the needs of the organization. 
  • Maintain contact with foundations and corporations regarding grant opportunities and submissions.  
  • Ensure donor database is maintained, donations are tracked, and donations are recognized. 
  • Provides staff leadership and support to the Fundraising Committee and other committees and task forces as necessary. 
  • Provides fundraising development and training for the Board of Directors. 
  • Provides staff leadership and support for all special events. 
  • Assists in developing and implementing agency goals, policies, and procedures. 
  • Meets regularly with Leadership Team and CEO. 
  • Participates in related community activities and promotes the organization’s mission and programs throughout the community. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of fundraising and development. 
  • Non-profit organization experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

General office environment but must have ability to travel around the Metro Atlanta area to attend meetings and events and promote the organization. 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:  Two-way communication with CEO to collaboratively develop and implement the annual fundraising plan, to ensure achievement of fundraising goals and to manage expectations regarding basic job functions. Supervision of development staff and oversight of all fundraising activities. Acts as part of the management of the organization and works consistently with Board Members, Consultants, Volunteers, and Committee Members to facilitate development strategies. 

External:  Effectively interacts with donors, community leaders, and Board Members to achieve increased public understanding and support of organization and its mission. Actively promotes the organization and is a positive brand representative in all external interactions.
