Community Tech Network is currently seeking a dynamic, passionate, and collaborative Executive Managing Director to co-lead the organization at a pivotal point in its history.

Community Tech Network (CTN) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with offices in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Austin, TX.  Our mission is to unite organizations and volunteers to transform lives through digital literacy. We believe that access to the internet is a human right, and that those without the skills to use a computer are at risk of social and economic disadvantage. The shift to having the primary repository for public services and essential information be online has been accelerated by the events of the last year. The digital literacy gap has never been so sharply highlighted as it is today as millions of people are unable to access fully these resources. We believe that access to technology is only a partial solution. Connectivity needs to be coupled with digital skills training that is relevant to the learners and delivered in modalities most likely to produce positive results.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a results-oriented and inspiring leader to work alongside the Founder/Executive National Director of CTN as the organization seeks to strengthen infrastructure, deepen existing relationships, and put in place the systems, procedures, and policies to support rapid expansion of programs and services.  This role will report directly to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Financial Oversight

  • Establishes and maintains strong accounting and financial management protocols and procedures
  • Ensures that the organization is fiscally sound and that the operating budget supports implementation of the strategic plan
  • Manages the growth and/or replacement of cash reserves
  • Provides the Board with regular financial analysis, cash flow, expenses, and updates on funding proposals and grants
  • Prepares annual budget in coordination with the Executive National Director, staff, and Board Treasurer to meet financial needs of program and general operations
  • In coordination with the Executive National Director,recommends yearly budget for Board approval

Fundraising and Development

 

  • In coordination with the Executive National Director, develops and executes long-range and diverse funding strategies in support of the implementation and success of CTN’s programmatic and long-term goals
  • Expands local revenue generating and fundraising activities in the Bay Area to support existing program operations and regional expansion
  • Cultivates and grows existing relationships with Bay Area foundations and major corporate and individual donors
  • Actively seeks new revenue sources – government, corporate, foundation, and private – to meet program goals
  • Using an entrepreneurial approach, seeks to develop and sustain additional earned income sources of revenue for the organization

Operations and Program Administration

 

  • Responsible for day-to-day management of CTN including staff management, hiring and performance reviews,  contract/grants administration, and overseeing board of director meetings and board relations
  • Effectively and strategically manages the growth of CTN’s operations and programs by establishing and maintaining policies and procedures that provide a sound infrastructure
  • Provide leadership and direction for the organization and promote an organizational culture that fosters diversity, cooperation, communication, teamwork, and trust

Board Relations and Support

 

  • Assists the Board president and/or executive committee to develop Board meeting agendas
  • Supports and provides Board with correct and adequate information to help members reach sound decisions and establish necessary and required policies that will promote the organization’s overall mission 
  • Facilitates the Board’s involvement in the formation of CTN’s policies and programs and supervises the implementation of Board-approved policies
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the Board and CTN staff
  • Assists in recruiting new Board members

Candidate Profile 

The CTN Executive Managing Director will be an experienced, innovative, and collaborative leader with compelling presence and exceptional communication and relationship-building skills. 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of senior management experience, preferably in the nonprofit management field, with a successful track record in entrepreneurial environments holding positions of increasing complexity and responsibility. This leader will have experience and relationships in the Bay Area philanthropic, nonprofit and/or business sectors, as well as knowledge of the critical social and economic issues that impact access to digital connectivity.  A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, but not required.

External Relations and Communication  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent CTN in a professional and engaging manner.

Revenue Development 

  • A track record of securing financial resources from a variety of sources, building awareness of and support for important endeavors, and successfully cultivating and building donor relationships. 
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with due diligence and/or grant-making processes.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Full time position reporting to the Board of Directors and located in San Francisco
  • Salary - $85,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience
  • 90% of health, dental, vision insurance paid, 50% for dependents
