Objective: 

To serve as the Association’s key resource for ensuring that the goal to eliminate racism and empower women is highly evident in all YWCA programs, interactions, service delivery and community relations. The successful candidate will provide expertise, strategic planning, coaching, and leadership to support the Agency in driving internal racial justice, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as it strives to be a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing programs specifically designed to eliminate racism and empower women, for promoting awareness of local and national issues related to racism, sexism and empowering women, and for recommending public policy actions necessary to advance our mission. The Director will also position the Association as a credible, visible and connected community organization whenever contact is made with the media and/or elected officials related to the YWCA mission. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Develops, launches, oversees and evaluates efforts and the provision of programs and services specifically designed to boost ongoing efforts to eliminate racism and empower women. May include but are not limited to:  

Prepares and implements an annual racial justice and women’s empowerment educational development plan covering: 

Orientation presentations for staff and board to ensure full understanding of the YWCA’s racial justice and women’s empowerment history, positions, and strategies implemented to eliminate racism and empower women.  

Ongoing training schedule and service curriculums for staff and board on policies and practices to ensure that our mission to eliminate racism and empower women is fully incorporated, intentionally brought to life, and annually measured in terms of impact in each area of our work. 

Convenes discussions and analyzes if/how racism and barriers to women’s empowerment have been a factor in local, state, and national events. 

Gathers/prepares and distributes basic information on relevant issues, including materials provided by YWCA USA, related legislation and potential action steps regarding racial justice, inclusion, empowerment and equity. 

Organizes public events and educational offerings to eliminate racism and empower women.   

Builds coalitions and partnerships with local, state, and national entities that help support and enhance YWCA efforts to eliminate racism and empower women.  

Provide general creative, multimedia and project management support as needed. A successful candidate will have a deep understanding of social change work and will be well-versed in DEI thought leadership: bringing insights, recommendations and tactical execution to support YWCA advocacy and storytelling. 

Works collaboratively with leadership and Human Resources to design and implement the Agency’s internal mission impact/DEI strategic plan, and utilize data to continuously learn, adapt, and improve the YWCA employee experience.  

Fosters an inclusive and welcoming organizational culture, and establishes shared accountability mechanisms for visible equity. 

Serves as a resource and as a consultant to underrepresented groups within the agency and make sure leadership hears all voices.  

Active involvement with the YWCA of Binghamton/Broome County Board Advocacy Committee. 

Works closely with the Executive Team and Board Advocacy Committee.  Coordinates activities of department associates as needed.

Minimum Requirements: 

Commitment to the YWCA mission, goals and programs.  

Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. 

Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in Diversity and Inclusion or a related field, PLUS experience in diversity, advocacy and/or policy related position or programs Or equivalent work-related professional experience. 

An effective communicator with experience developing and facilitating trainings/presentations related to equity, diversity, and inclusion and anti-racism in professional organizations.  Experience facilitating courageous conversations about race, social and cultural diversity and racism.   

Experience in event planning, coordinating meetings, designing multimedia marketing materials/event announcements. 

Knowledge of the local community and state as it relates to potential program partners, elected officials, issues, and trainers.  

Ability to analyze information on related policy issues and determine appropriate action related to eliminating racism and empowering women.  

Utilize superb interpersonal, relationship, written and verbal communications skills, supporting how we manage YWCA mission focused reputation internally and externally. 

Demonstrated proficiency in Office 365, MS Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook, Virtual Communication Platforms, and social media platforms 

Ability to work across lines of difference, engage and build relationships and influence others without direct authority. 

Organizational skills to handle the development and implementation of multiple projects. 

Ability to collaborate with others to support organizational changes that advance equitable and diverse organizational culture.
