Great Prospects, a 501c3 organization, provides post-secondary (after high school) and summer programs for adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities, as well as social an respite events. Our mission is to provide meaningful connections for individuals with disabilities through continued educational enrichment, social interaction, community outreach and recreational programs. Our Vision Statement is "Empowering Special People".

We are seeking an Activities Assistant to help us positively impact the lives of the youth and adults with developmental disabilities we serve.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the efforts to successfully maintain and develop participant life skills and meet goals as set forth in ISP or by parents
  • Works with small groups of participants to reinforce learning of program materials and life skills
  • Maintains monthly ISP notes for assigned participants
  • Assists the Program Director in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual participants’ needs, interests and abilities
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help for substitute staff assigned in the absence of the Program Director
  • Alerts the CEO to any problem or special information about an individual or family
  • Performs non-instructional duties such as lunch time, snack time, and toileting routines
  • When requested, serves as a resource person to the CEO and Program Director
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about participants in Great Prospects
  • Attends trainings, as required
  • Maintains a safe working environment
  • Manage social media accounts, writes bimonthly blogs and some additional marketing duties
  • Purchase supplies for activities according to budget
  • Participates in respite days, one Saturday/month from 9am-2pm
  • Coordinate with marketing consultant on respite day
  • Submit bimonthly social media report to the Board of Directors
  • Contribute to annual year end report
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • Computer and internet proficiency and a willingness to learn new technology tools
  • Proficiency with office productivity programs and social media tools
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Associate, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in one of the following areas is required: recreational therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or special education

IDEAL APPLICANT WILL POSSESS

  • Strong interest in Great Prospects' mission
  • Previous social media experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and be calm under pressure
  • Ability to solve problems and think strategically
  • Reliability and willingness to be flexible
  • Experience either paid or as a volunteer with people with developmental disabilities

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Full time reporting to Great Prospects' Program Director
  • The position pays $16.00 per hour. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am - 4 pm at our Sandy Springs location.
  • Additional compensation potential after 6 months.
