Fair Count has built a large body of work in a relatively short amount of time in the realm of civic engagement. From the 2020 Census, to elections, to redistricting, and now to vaccine accessibility, Fair Count uses a long-term power-building model to support increased participation in historically marginalized communities. Fair Count seeks a Data Manager to support these efforts, with an emphasis on voter engagement work in Georgia, and potentially some work in other Deep South states

The Data Manager will work closely with the field team to carry out the organization’s on-the-ground engagement efforts, but should also expect close collaboration with other departmental leads and their various programmatic work. The right candidate will have both strong data skills combined with effective communication abilities to help Fair Count pursue a data-driven culture. The Data Manager will report to the Director of Data and Analytics. This role requires a nimble attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit, as Fair Count is a responsive organization to time and place. Expectations and goals will be somewhat fluid as the organization adapts to needs across the civic engagement landscape.

Duties of the Data Manager include:

  • Work closely with data and field team members to develop and maintain reporting systems that provide decision-making information to other staff members;
  • Design, conduct, and analyze various mobilization tests in the field such as targeted phone banks and/or text banks with varying testing treatments;
  • Clean and standardize large datasets as needed;
  • Develop and maintain data workflows to collect, clean, and transform data for insights;
  • Develop deep familiarity with the various software tools used for contact;
  • Lead support and training initiatives on digital tools to increase the field team’s organizing capacity;
  • Build lists and cut turf within voter contact universes for outreach;
  • Help set the internal standards for managing and moving data across multiple systems, ensuring data integrity with the required documentation and transparency;
  • Analyze data and present findings to stakeholders of varying technical abilities to improve organizational efficiency and impact;
  • Transform data trends and an analysis into digestible narrative form;
  • Perform other duties or special projects as needed.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in data analysis in electoral and/or advocacy spaces;
  • Intermediate ability with SQL or other data analysis language for report building and data management;
  • Familiarity with voter targeting, voter contact, and GOTV best practices;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently in a highly collaborative environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Background in 501c3/501c4 work with a strong appreciation for nonpartisan civic engagement work is helpful;
  • A  record of success working with communities of color and other historically marginalized communities;
  • Proven background in balancing speed with accuracy in data management;
  • Detail oriented (you enjoy figuring out why the number is off by 1!);
  • Appreciation for the small, sometimes tedious data work that supports the bigger picture;
  • Responsive and positive team player who enjoys versatility and new challenges;
  • Proficiency with most of the following tools: Votebuilder/VAN, Thrutalk, Spoke or other p2p SMS software, Excel/Google Sheets, Google Office Suite;
  • Bonus points for knowledge of: Tableau/Data Studio, Civis Platform, Mobilize, Representable, GIS tools; and
  • A strong commitment to racial equity and Fair Count’s values.

Logistics:

Due to COVID-19, Fair Count’s 25+ employees are all teleworking, but the majority of the team is based in Georgia. Due to the nature of this role and the expectation of returning to office work in some capacity in the future, Fair Count is only considering Georgia-based candidates at this time.

  • Fair Count works on EST/EDT—and requires participation in a daily morning meeting;
  • All staff members participate in several meetings throughout the day by Zoom and Google Hangouts;
  • Collaborative communication is encouraged through Signal, email, and regular phone calls to team members as needed.

Generally, office hours are typically 9:00 – 5:00, Monday through Friday, however, at times evening and weekend hours will be needed to staff events, to meet deadlines, and to respond to extenuating circumstances. Such extension of hours is particularly true during heavy GOTC and GOTV endeavors.

Additionally, Fair Count is a 100% vaccinated workplace, as allowed for by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Proof of vaccination will be required upon acceptance of a job offer.

Last, this position is currently scheduled to end on December 31, 2022.

Salary & Benefits:

Fair Count offers a competitive salary of $60,000 - $72,000 for the Data Manager role, commensurate with experience, and a benefits package.

Application and Interview Procedure:

To apply, submit your resume and a list of 3 references. In lieu of a cover letter, please include a short note (less than 200 words) sharing why civic engagement is important to you.

We will accept applications through June 25. At that point, we will reach out to our first round of candidates for an interview.

If selected for an interview, you can expect the following interview steps:

  • View a 15 minute webinar on the job position followed by a phone screening (20 mins)

To deliver on our mission, Fair Count hires and supports a diverse team of the best and brightest, most mission-driven people available. We value diversity.
