Position Overview

GreenLight Fund seeks a mission-driven, intellectually curious, and inclusive National Portfolio Associate (Associate) to support programmatic strategy and operations for GreenLight’s national network of 10 cities (and growing!). The Associate position is a growth role that will work at the nexus of our city-based teams (sites) and across the National Portfolio team’s three core functional areas:

  1. Data Management: primarily involves managing our in-house Apricot program management system which holds all of our programmatic data from due diligence conducted on prospective portfolio organizations (prospective grantees) to annual data reported from our portfolio organizations (grantees)
  2. Site Support Coaching: primarily involves being proficient in all steps of the GreenLight Method of selecting and supporting portfolio organizations and providing direct support to sites in implementing the Method with fidelity
  3. Learning Management: primarily involves gathering and analyzing the quantitative and qualitative data drawn from our sites and portfolio organizations, and sharing the learnings with stakeholders in alignment with our broader organizational Learning Agenda

Within these functional areas, the Associate will lead and support a diverse and dynamic array of activities listed in the following section. The Associate will report to the National Portfolio Senior Associate (who is based in the San Francisco Bay Area along with the National Portfolio Director) and will work collaboratively across the GreenLight Fund national network.

Responsibilities

1. Data Management Support (~40% of role)

  • Support implementation of the Apricot program management system, including communicating with portfolio organizations and sites around required data reporting, importing data, and developing national and site-level portfolio dashboards and reports;
  • Work with site teams to regularly clean and update data and documents on the Apricot program management system, Resource Library on Box and the GreenLight Method Playbook
  • Support national and site-level research analytics and projects as aligned with broader GreenLight Learning Agenda and site-needs; and
  • Support national and site-level staff with training, onboarding and ongoing use of the Apricot program management system.

2. Site Support (~40% of role)

  • Support pipeline building of prospective organizations from around the country:
  • Scheduling and fielding intro calls with prospective organizations that would be a potential fit for multiple sites; monitoring opportunities (events, publications, intermediaries) to identify potential grantees, and representing GreenLight to prospective organizations that are seeking to expand;
  • Update and develop full diligence assessment and tools based on needs and inputs from sites and prospective organizations;
  • Support sites with research on current and relevant focus areas and priorities among communities experiencing poverty;
  • Support sites with conducting due diligence on prospective portfolio organizations, including financial analysis and impact analysis; and
  •  Support planning, hiring/onboarding and managing of National Portfolio interns/fellows and alignment of interns/fellows across sites when appropriate.

3. Learning Management (~20% of role)

  • Support planning and facilitation of biweekly calls with all sites, and ensure alignment with broader Learning Agenda for GreenLight and sector-wide learnings and trends;
  • Help prepare content and materials for biweekly calls with all sites, biannual all staff meetings, biannual leadership team meetings and quarterly GreenLight Board meetings;
  • Develop and contribute to communications based on translating data analysis and findings into content for multiple audiences;
  • Contribute to GreenLight Fund’s blog, Twitter account and e-newsletter;
  • Assist with the development of GreenLight’s Annual Portfolio Report; and
  • Assist with national and site-level grant proposals, as needed.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and take initiative (the National Portfolio team is based in the Bay Area but does not work in an office together; although there will likely be opportunities to meet and collaborate in-person later in 2021-2022);
  • Strong research, writing and presentation skills; and
  • Flexibility, humor and a passion for GreenLight’s mission.

The following skills and experiences are not all required but an ideal candidate will have some combination of the following and a demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly:

Company

GreenLight Fund is a national nonprofit with a local focus that partners with communities to create opportunities for inclusive prosperity.

We facilitate a community-driven process that matches the local needs of individuals and families not met by existing programs, to organizations with track records of success elsewhere. Working with communities, we identify, invite in and launch proven organizations, providing collaborative support so they can quickly take root and deliver change. Everything we do is designed to remove barriers to inclusive prosperity all too often rooted in racial inequities. Our impact increases exponentially as we address one specific, community-identified need each year, in each GreenLight site. Since 2004, we have launched 44 portfolio organizations across 11 sites, invested $31M, and attracted an additional $206M from other funding sources, reaching more than 565,000 individuals and families in 2021 alone.
