About MVP

MVP is a best-in-class advising platform connecting progressive donors to the most effective and promising grassroots organizations in the country working at the intersection of movements, community organizing, and elections. We aim to increase investment in frontline organizations led by the most impacted communities to increase turnout among the progressive base, build long-term political power, and ultimately to transform our country at the local, state, and national levels. In the 2020 cycle, MVP successfully moved over $120 million to over 600 local groups across the country, focused in the most critical states.

Our Approach:

We are organizers, and the heart of our work is organizing donors through MVP to support local groups in order to build, sustain, and amplify their impact. We work in service of local groups, and we try to be aware at all times of the power dynamics of being a funder and to be careful about incentivizing actions that could alter an organization’s own priorities; we work hard not to impose on our partners. We are also striving to continuously scrutinize and dismantle the ways we manifest and reproduce white supremacy culture both internally and externally.

We focus on building from our assets, and taking a positive approach to growth and change that helps groups and donors to feel comfortable being vulnerable about their areas of improvement. We believe in a non-competitive, non-divisive, whole ecosystem approach; we are always seeking opportunities to support and encourage collaboration among groups and donors.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As one of two Program Managers, you will be managing the day-to-day work of MVP’s programs including state and issue fund advising, reporting, and collaboration with other teams. You will report to the Vice President of Programs.

As a Program Manager, you will be responsible for:

State Advising Team Management

  • Manage half of our state advising team in our Tier 1 and Tier 2 states, as well as issue and constituency fund managers.

Develop and implement necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the work of the department and ability to share information - both internally and externally.

Develop staff: Actively coach and develop your team to achieve their goals - providing constructive feedback, guidance, and accountability, and creating opportunities to learn from both successes and setbacks.

Partnership Management

  • National Partners: manage relationships with national organizing network partners and coordinate partnership strategy and commitments.

Manage a limited number of key donor and philanthropic partnerships, in partnership with the Director of Grantmaking and Philanthropic Strategy.

Represent MVP’s work and strategies in donor and philanthropic spaces.

Program Leadership

  • Co-lead the process of documentation, evaluation, and storytelling about our movement partners' work and the movement ecosystem to produce written and visually compelling plans, state and fund one-pagers, updates, reports, and other materials as needed - working with the Communications team.

Work with the Development team to analyze, curate and create grant dockets, customized information and write-ups for donors, funders and partners.

Co-develop and co-manage the systems and processes that will help us achieve a Progressive Decade (MVP’s strategic plan).

Other duties: We’re a growing organization, and responsibilities will evolve with the role and as opportunities emerge.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in the field - the more multifaceted, the better. You’ve worked in, led, and supported local grassroots organizations and deeply understand their work.

Skill and comfort managing people, teams, and budgets.

Keen strategic sense and experience driving advanced strategic initiatives.

Cultural humility - ability to build relationships across lines of difference.

Demonstrated ability to engage at a high level with issues of racial equity and inclusion.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Comfort with technology and database systems.

Passion for grassroots progressive political change and shifting power to marginalized communities.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated capability to lead cross-functionally - a creative and collaborative thinker and overall positive presence.

Remote people management experience and skills.

  • Experience in both grassroots and national organizations.

  • Coaching and/or facilitation experience.

We realize that some great candidates may not have every single thing on this list - that’s OK!  If this job posting piques your interest, we encourage you to apply!
