Make the Road builds the power of immigrant and working-class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road operates community centers New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Nevada. We tackle the critical issues facing our communities, including workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights and civil rights, TGNCIQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform. (TGNCIQ = transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex and queer)

 

The Operations Department of Make the Road is a growing department, which develops our infrastructure in coordination with all the other Departments in the organization and plays a key role in frontline services and  event logistics.

 

Current Opening:

Make the Road is seeking a full-time Operations Associate to provide day-to-day operations and administrative support. The position will support the coordination of teams reporting to the Director of Operations, undertake project management of operational and finance projects, provide support in maintaining the operations budget and tracking related expenditures and where necessary assist with insurance related..

 

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Maintain records of relevant organizational information In coordination with the Director of Operations assess and create policies and procedures as needed, as well as implementation Manage designated operational processes, as required e.g. insurance policy and State Registration maintenance, etc.  Process incoming and outgoing mail  Work closely with the Administrative Staff at all sites on logistics and supplies for events.  Support Co-Executive Directors on Tasks Assigned. Work with Operations Director and Finance Team to track expenses and make budget updates Collaborate with the Compliance Manager to maintain updated grant and additional compliance information Work with IT Director to ensure staff has necessary and functioning equipment Function as support person during finance and HR audits being conducted Help produce and order materials (e.g., tshirts, sweatshirts) Responsible for Board meeting prep and Scheduling 

Required Competencies, Skills and Experience Include:

 

  • Eligible to work in the US A minimum of two years’ experience ideally gained in high-pressure office environment including specific experience in operations management, development and implementation of policies and procedures  At ease with technology. Experience with Salesforce.com and general understanding and experience with databases an advantage Excellent Microsoft Office skills incl. Excel, PowerPoint  Articulate with an extremely professional self-presentation and outstanding interpersonal skills Polite and tactful and able to maintain composure under pressure  Sound judgment, a high degree of professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality • Excellent written and oral communication skills  Proactive and solution-orientated, able to use initiative and work independently  Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously An excellent team player  Fluent in Spanish a plus
