Job Purpose

Kingswood strives to be a loving community where all are welcome, the lost are found, and disciples are made for the transformation of the world. The Youth Director contributes to this vision by creating spaces for students to encounter Christ and respond.

Job Summary

The Youth Director will work with other staff and lay leaders to expand and enhance a program of Sunday school, Sunday evening activities, Confirmation, retreats, service projects, and mission trips for youth ages 6th - 12th grade. This Director will harness their creativity and spirituality, building on the existing framework to reengage youth post-COVID, shape the future of the program, and impact lives. This is a part-time, non-exempt, salaried position eligible for paid time off. 

Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities of the Youth Director for Kingswood Church include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively contribute to the four cornerstones of Kingswood’s mission: passionate worship and discipleship; engaging in radical hospitality and building a loving community; serving the greater good in ministry and mission; and sharing the good news of Christ locally and globally
  • Partner with staff and lay leadership to expand youth engagement in the total life of the church.
  • Work with adult volunteers to lead weekly youth activities at Kingswood on Sundays (morning and evening) and Wednesdays (evening)
  • Organize events and trips for the youth
  • Explore opportunities for the youth to put their faith into action through caring for others
  • Maintain Safe Sanctuaries guidelines for all youth activities and provide this training for volunteers
  • Grow the youth program by engaging with youth not currently involved via community events and a strengthened social media presence
  • Responsibly manage budget for youth ministry

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 3 years experience developing and leading programs for youth, preferably in a church setting
  • A contagious spirit for attracting and retaining youth
  • A healthy sense of humor and the ability to balance fun with opportunities for spiritual growth
  • Strong teamwork skills both with youth and with the church clergy, staff and congregation
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to plan and manage schedules and budgets
  • Dedication to United Methodist theology, doctrine, and discipleship

Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position that averages 30 hours per week.  Attendance at Sunday activities (morning and evening), Wednesday fellowship (evening), and some meetings which may fall in the evenings or on the weekend is required.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel, and lift at least 20+ pounds to move equipment and materials.

The church currently holds two worship services on Sunday mornings, at 8:45 am (traditional service) and 11:00 am (blended service). The church was founded in 1968 and has approximately 500 members.
