Job Title:  Grants Manager 

Department:   Resource Development 

Reports To: Managing Director of Development 

Status:  Full-Time/Salaried/Exempt  

Position Purpose: The Latin American Association (LAA) seeks a talented grant writer and fundraising professional for the position of Grants Manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day grant operations, systems and workflow management of the LAA’s grant making.  The ideal candidate will engage in the early stages of planning for each grant cycle and assist with the review process to ensure proper due diligence of all proposals. S/he will be responsible for grant data management from application to grant close out, and will support program and senior leadership data requests on a routine basis. The grants manager is expected to collaborate with program team members, whenever beneficial, to ensure the grant making and oversight practices are consistent, equitable and focused on maximizing the grant program’s impact and effectiveness for both the LAA staff and grantees. S/he is solution-oriented and a self-starter who is inspired by the mission of the organization and the opportunity to work in an open, collaborative culture.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and write compelling grant proposals for all local, state and federal government grants, foundation, corporate and United Way grants as well as others as assigned 
  • Manage and oversees the Grants Assistant position 
  • Ensure a transparent process for the entire grant life cycle, from request to close. This entails pre-award management (research, identifying prospects, proposals), tracking payments, reviewing or producing relevant reports, monitoring and post-award management  
  • Develop a balanced and sustainable grants portfolio including identifying new grant funding opportunities to support implementation of the LAA’s strategic plan including an expanded state wide geographic service area and systems-level projects and programs 
  • Creates and monitors program and management budgets, working with Accounting and Department Heads 
  • Maintain accurate and current data in grants management, including contact updates, weekly activities/site visits, and grant cycle information; Set up and monitor grant payments and reporting schedule  
  • Field questions from organizations regarding the grant process; respond as appropriate or refer to program directors  
  • Analyze systems for tracking grant data and make recommendations to improve grant making and to contribute to the team’s learning and evaluation efforts   
  • Provide grants management support to senior management and program staff regarding grants administration process, compliance, and data analysis  
  • Maintain annual grants management calendar. Schedule and track relevant deadlines  
  • Maintain relevant electronic and paper records. Conduct periodic audits to ensure quality and completeness of data entered   
  • Represent the LAA professionally by attending foundation, community, and grantee events as appropriate  
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities as appropriate  
  • Contribute to and manage special projects, as requested 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s degree preferred 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in non-profit grant writing with demonstrated success securing public and private grant funding, preferably with social services and/or advocacy agencies 
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills
  • Experience developing nonprofit budgets and reports 
  • Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills 
  • Strong ability to plan and manage processes with high attention to detail 
  • Effective collaborator with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team 
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint 

Compensation:  Salary commensurate with experience and background.
