Non-Profit Health Clinic Seeking Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (part-time position)

About Good Shepherd Clinic

Good Shepherd Clinic’s mission is to provide free primary medical care to uninsured residents of Clayton County who have limited financial resources. Our goal is to express the love of God by providing quality health care in an atmosphere of dignity and respect for all.

Our ongoing objective is to provide quality medical care to Clayton County residents who do not have medical insurance and are financially limited with a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. We strive to be our patients’ primary healthcare home, and provide them with a full scale healthcare experience.

Job Summary:

This position is for a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant that will be responsible for the majority of patient care provided at our free medical clinic. The NP/PA will have a good deal of autonomy, but is ultimately supervised by the clinic's volunteer Medical Director. An ideal candidate will have experience with family/private practice care and management of chronic care conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, obesity, etc.

The NP/PA will be expected to provide treatment and offer preventative counseling to patients, as well as prescribe medications and order, perform, and/or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and EKGs. Additionally, this person will supervise other clinical roles such as nursing staff, medical assistants, and lab techs, and also work closely with the Medical Director and Executive Director to ensure care goals are being reached.

Required Hours:

This is a part-time position, approx. 20 hours per week. Availability on Mondays - Wednesdays is required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic illnesses

· Conduct physical examinations, perform screening and order laboratory tests

· Interpret patients’ histories, symptoms, and physical finding to develop diagnoses

· Develop and implement patient management policies and procedures

· Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, wound care, and infection management

· Make Diagnoses and decision about management and treatment of clients

· Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, such as complete bold counts ( CBCs), EKGs, and X-rays

· Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, patient adherence and cost as legally authorized with physician’s approval

· Practice under the confines of the Medical Director’s practice protocols

Education & Work Experience:

· Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant currently licensed by the state of Georgia

· At least 2 years experience in a clinical health care setting is preferred

· Current DEA prescriptive authority

· Proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Records

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $40.00 per hour

We serve as the patients’ primary healthcare home and provide ongoing care for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and COPD. We also offer laboratory services free of cost. In addition to providing medical care, we endeavor to enroll all qualified patients in pharmaceutical prescription assistance programs in order to increase access to much needed medications at low or no cost. We also stress the importance of health education and offer Nurse Practitioner-guided educational classes, as well as instructional material focused on many ailments, so that every patient has the information they need to manage their conditions successfully.
