Organization Overview

Since 1981 CHRIS 180 has been dedicated to healing and recovery for children, youth, adults and families and is a growing $18+ million organization with over 250 employees.  CHRIS 180 services include: counseling for the community at large; school based mental health counseling; homes for abused, neglected foster children with emotional and behavioral problems who are in state custody; supportive housing for single and parenting young people, ages 17 – 24 who are homeless or aging out of foster care; in-home services and community programs that strengthen families; outreach, drop-in and community housing for older teens, young adults and young adult families; a community center; an adoption program for children in foster care; and, training for professionals, human service workers, educators, volunteers, individuals who work within the community, other organizations and children, youth and families.  The goal for all services is to unlock the potential that resides in each person to help them become self-sufficient, contributing adults who have the skills to navigate life’s challenges.

Position Summary

The Director of Development is a regular, full-time position responsible for the overall management of the annual campaign, and donor communications as well as the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of contributions from donors and donor prospects in coordination with the Chief Development Officer.

This position plays an important role in growing the number of CHRIS 180’s donors and supporters, building and managing a portfolio of prospects, expanding the scope and scale of CHRIS 180’s philanthropic efforts, and helping formulate strategy and implementation of plans to achieve fundraising goals for individuals. This position will help create a culture of individual giving that is based in moves management. Therefore, they should have an understand the fundamentals of moves management and have successfully implemented this process. This DD will manage the Major Gift Officer and Annual Campaign and Stewardship Manager. 

There is an expectation that this person will be visible in the community and will be expected to be at a significant number of evening events as part of their responsibilities.

Role and Responsibilities

The primary duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage overall annual campaign/individual giving structure and staff:
    • Annual Campaign and Stewardship Manager whose portfolio includes low end donors and direct response campaigns and is responsible for the management of all aspects of the donor communication calendar.
    • Major Gift Officer whose portfolio includes identifying, stewarding, cultivating, and soliciting donors who give between $1,000 & $5,000 and those with capacity to make a gift in that range.
  • Implement programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the major gift level ($2,500 and above).  Actively participate in the identification and qualification of new donors.
  • Cultivate and grow a visible presence within the progressive community and be seen as part of the engaged and active donor community in the metro Atlanta area. 
  • Manage all aspects of the Advisory Council including primary staff contact for co-chairs, securing pledges and ensure pledge are fulfilled for AC members and leverage AC members networks to increase individual and corporate support.
  • Attend and represent CHRIS 180 at events in the community and build a network of donors and prospects.
  • Develop relationships with CHRIS 180’s existing donor and volunteer leadership base, working strategically with the CDO, volunteer leadership, and CHRIS 180 staff. 
  • Ensure donors feel connected to the organization, staff and mission and recognize the importance of CHRIS 180’s mission and impact in the community.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan to include upgrading current donors and identifying and soliciting new donors to meet budgeted revenue goals.
  • Develop and implement moves management process for all donors and prospects when appropriate. 
  • Identify additional opportunities for engagement with donors and prospects to support CHRIS 180’s fundraising events, other activities, and Planned Giving program.
  • Execute events and other fundraising activities that advance CHRIS 180’s relationship with donors/prospects.
  • Prepare written documents in support of solicitation, cultivation, and development events, including correspondence, strategic plans, invitations, and reports. Develop highly tailored proposals.
  • Manage current donor and prospect cultivation and solicitation plans through the use of donor software—identifying next steps, stewardship, and cultivation opportunities, etc.
  • Actively share information on planned giving opportunities as appropriate.
  • Management of Major Gift Officer and Annual Campaign and Stewardship Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required with a minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising and managing fundraising campaigns.
  • Must have 5+ years supervision experience and be comfortable delegating while holding other accountable to accomplish their goals.
  • Comfortable working independently and as a leader and member of a team.
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and have proven experience in securing gifts over $2,500.
  • Must have proven track recorded in donor relations and with moves management.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple assignments and be able to handle complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and strong communications skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to represent CHRIS 180 in a variety of settings.
  • Flexibility with work schedule; this position does require occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Understanding of donor-based software is necessary.
