JOB SUMMARY:

Provide structure and guidance within the shelter (domestic violence safehouse) setting to facilitate a supportive living environment; ensure facility is in good operating condition; supervise and maintain a cooperative work environment; provide consultation to other employees as situations arise in shelter.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain confidentiality within agency guidelines.
  • Provide ongoing orientation/supervision / training for shelter staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Participate in the process to interview and select potential candidates for shelter staff, intern, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Review time and attendance sheets for shelter staff. Plan staff shift schedules and ensure 24/7 staffing of shelter facilities.
  • Provide ongoing consultation to shelter staff on crisis situations, including responding to calls regarding crises after hours and on the weekends.
  • Implement and coordinate activities for shelter residents and assign appropriate staff to lead or assist in those activities.
  • Ensure clients are receiving adequate case management services through supervision of staff, file checks, and review of services entered into the data management system.
  • Assist staff and clients with finding and connecting to new resources within the community and facilitate access as necessary.
  • Conduct meetings with shelter staff or clients on a regular basis.
  • Participate in organizational meetings as a department leader, attend community meetings as a representative on behalf of the organization.
  • Maintain shelter budgets and ensure compliance with grant guidelines and requirements. Prepare and submit program reports for internal review as well as for funders.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment that is conducive to the shelter residents/client’s emotional and physical well-being. Monitor facilities for needed repairs or improvements and work with maintenance staff to ensure completion of work orders in a timely manner.
  • Follow protocol in reporting all suspected cases of child abuse/neglect.
  • Attend training sessions professional workshops in order to keep up with best practice in the areas of domestic violence, case management, trauma-informed care, mental health, etc. Submit training hours for annual licensure renewal, if applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to handle crisis in a calm and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of grant requirements and ability to track and monitor program data for reports and quality control.
  • Strong problem-solving skills required; must be a commonsense thinker who can be a quick decision maker when necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a variety of tasks on a daily basis.
  • Strong oral communication skills required to effectively communicate with a broad range of individuals.
  • Ability to convert knowledge into written policies and procedures.
  • Strong written communications skills required to maintain quality documentation and case management notes.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the social service/case management field.
  • Understanding of domestic violence dynamics and the effects of trauma on survivors and their children.
  • May be required to lift boxes up to 25 lbs.

MINIMUM CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

Require a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or human services. 3-5 years of experience in the social services/ human services field. Must have experience supervising employees. Requires strong knowledge in the field of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; Requires knowledge of Trauma Informed Care implementation and best practices.

Must have valid driver’s license in State of Georgia and driving record must comply with insurance requirements. Must complete and pass CPR First Aid Course. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of background, fingerprint, drug and motor vehicle record checks.
