HR GENERALIST 

OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (REMOTE TO START)

WHO SHOULD APPLY? 

Our HR team works closely with our colleagues in Oakland; Madison, Wisconsin; and elsewhere. We are looking for a resourceful HR subject matter expert with: passion for inclusive recruitment and data-driven HR metrics from our ADP Workforce Now platform; comfort with interpreting and implementing employment law compliance; and diligence for managing contract compliance. 

 

You will be responsible for carrying out duties pertaining to recruitment/employment, HR information systems (HRIS), benefits administration, training, employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, and employment law compliance. Our work requires organization, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to addressing complex social challenges for more effective and equitable systems. 

 

The annualized compensation for this position is approximately $68–75,000 and depends on experience and qualifications. You will also have access to a rich benefits portfolio you can customize to fit your needs. 

 

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WORKWEEK LOOK LIKE? 

Get ready to: 

  • Advance HR strategic projects while keeping on top of the day-to-day activities. 
  • Provide recruitment strategy and support to hiring managers in alignment with strategic goals. 
  • Coach and consult with managers and employees on a variety of employment issues. 
  • Help ensure the accuracy of data, analysis, and decision making related to employees, programs, reporting, and systems. 
  • Monitor and maintain background check and employment law requirements and compliance.  
  • Actively participate in other duties driving our vision, mission, and values. 

 

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU NEED?

  • The ability to influence, communicate, and build relationships and confidence at all levels. 
  • The ability to thoroughly research specific topics and follow through on projects independently. 
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to job duties. 
  • Five or more years’ experience in multiple HR areas with progressive responsibilities. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and HRIS knowledge. 
  • A personal and professional commitment to equity and social justice. 
  • Comfort working with a diversity of people and perspectives. 

Strongly preferred assets include the following. 

  • Prior recruitment experience with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Professional certification and/or bachelor’s degree in HR management or similar study.  
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems and background check systems.
