Join the team of Nicholas House, Inc as its Volunteer & Marketing Coordinator and lead communication/outreach strategies and thousands of volunteers to make an impact on the lives of homeless children and parents. Nicholas House helps homeless families achieve self-sufficiency by providing a temporary place to live while identifying and addressing the root causes of homelessness so families don’t become homeless again.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Volunteer & Marketing Coordinator provides the support, organization and follow-up to ensure the smooth functioning of volunteer recruitment, engagement and recognition. In additon the position leads the agency's marketing outreach, internet and social media efforts in pursuit of the Nicholas House mission to help homeless families achieve self-sufficiency. 

Nicholas House programs are growing substantially and so is the need to communicate to our constiuents and engage volunteers and donors to join the already large number of supporters who provide funds or volunteer to provide dinners, education classes, tutoring, maintenance, in-kinds goods and more. You can be at the center of activty to help end family homeless in our community. 
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Program Management:

  • Recruits, trains, and coordinates activities of volunteers for ongoing needs to include:
    • In-kind dinner service at NHI’s Boulevard location nightly
    • Front office support and data entry.
    • Tutoring and mentoring assistance for after-school programs and summer/holiday camps.
    • Special events and fundraising activities
    • In-kind donations to Nicholas House
    • Evening life-skill workshops
    • Facility and yard maintenance
  • Manages and maintains volunteer database to include information on services delivered, value of donated goods/services, time contributed and volunteer contact information. 
  • Conducts background checks for volunteers working with children served by Nicholas House.
  • Facilitates timely responses to volunteer inquires and activities.

Marketing and Fundraising Support:

  • Oversees Sales Force CRM Database, including all donor, volunteer and other organizational contact data.  
  • Coordinates and maintains NHI’s social media platforms and Website
  • Assists with public relations and marketing campaigns throughout the year
  • Delivers compelling speeches for the purpose of volunteer recruitment and marketing
  • Creates and distributes regular email newsletters and produces marketing materials as needed.
  • Coordinates activities with NHI’s Marketing Committee and works in collaboration with NHI’s Fundraising Committee to maximize external outreach to NHI audiences.
  • Provides coordinating support for Nicholas House’s Open- Door Tours, fundraising campaigns/ project management, and other activities as needed.

Provides general support to community engagement and fundraising efforts working directly with volunteers and other constituents

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES NEEDED:
--  Results oriented with a passion to make an impact
--  Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment to proactively identify and overcome barriers or find solutions
--  Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and efficient time management
--  Excellent working knowledge of technology, including social media platforms, Internet search, Microsoft Office Suite, CRM databases and publishing software.
--  Excellent writing, editorial and verbal skills
-- Can work well in a fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines 
--  Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills, enthusiasm and flexibility
--  Ability to work evenings and week-ends as needed for volunteer activities

QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree and minimum 2-years experience in either volunteer coordination, marketing, fundraising or public relations or a more substantial record of progressively responsible experience in volunteer coordinator, marketing , public relations or fundraising roles. Must be a motivated self-starter able to work independently and proactively to find solutions as needed as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Must have strong organizational skills, be detailed oriented, able to meet multiple deadlines, and have excellent verbal/written communication. Should have ability to set and meet deadlines, self-assurance and ability to work well with persons from any background.  Strong computer skills and social media, internet search/use capability needed and experience with all Microsoft Office Suite software with an emphasis on Word, Excel, Access or other database systems, Publisher, Adobe Editor/Illustrator and all social media platforms. Experience with Sales Force CRM or in a non-profit organization involved with fundraising campaigns/events and service programs preferred.  Must have own transportation and be available for night and week-end work as needed. Full background and driving record checks will be conducted of final candidates.

ABOUT NICHOLAS HOUSE
The mission of Nicholas House is to help homeless families achieve self-sufficiency. Nicholas House provides safe, stable housing at a family shelter and in scattered apartments while providing a variety of case management and support services to address the underlying causes of a family’s homelessness. Each night 300 homeless children and parents are provided housing and services that help them move to independence through our efforts. With two-thirds of our residents being homeless children, Nicholas House strives to improve the current family situation as well as break the cycle of poverty and homelessness for future generations. A program emphasis on accountability helps homeless families establish clear goals, track progress and take specific action steps to achieve self-sufficiency with support programs including individualized case management, a 24-course adult series of onsite workshops addressing key issues, a comprehensive youth services program, and continuing aftercare support for two years upon leaving Nicholas House. Follow-up studies have shown that up two years after leaving Nicholas House nearly 80% of families continue to earn a living wage, maintain their own home and have a healthy family.
