DESCRIPTION

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health seeks an experienced fundraiser to join our dynamic team dedicated to raising resources to improve child and maternal health. Our 90- member staff directs all fundraising for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and for the maternal and child health programs at Stanford University School of Medicine. The Foundation's five-year fundraising average totals $165 million a year.

The Major Gifts team serves as the revenue engine for the foundation, maintaining and growing the pipeline of donors with capacity to make gifts of $100k to $5M or more. The Foundation is currently in the quiet phase of a campaign, which will allow for the continued growth of Stanford Children's Health as a leader in pediatric and obstetric care and research.

The Associate Director, Major Gifts is an existing position reporting to the Senior Director, Major Gifts. This role will join an 9-person team that will continue to grow over the next 5 to 7 years to increase the team's revenue capacity and support a growing grateful patient program. This position will have a mixed portfolio of vetted donors along with the opportunity to qualify prospects in three to four pediatric subspecialties, building a robust pipeline of new revenue for the Foundation. Areas of focus could include neurology, autism, food allergy, immunology, and potentially more, as new growth opportunities emerge through grateful patient work.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Donors and prospects

  • Maintain and promote relationships with a portfolio of major gift donors - defined as individuals capable of investing $100,000+ - and prospects, including grateful patient families. The primary focus of the portfolio is on building pipeline and closing 6-figure gifts with ample opportunity to build and grow relationships resulting in 7-figure contributions.
  • Qualify, cultivate and engage new major gift prospects to the Foundation through grateful patient fundraising.
  • Demonstrate solid understanding of institutional priorities and giving vehicles, with ability to apply knowledge to creation of proposals with limited supervision. Balance donor interest with organizational priorities.
  • Successfully solicit support, negotiate gift terms and ensure that gift agreements are created and followed.
  • Engage new and current prospects by recognizing, curating, and communicating Stanford School of Medicine and hospital information relevant to prospects.
  • In consultation with manager, develop solutions to navigate complex situations.
  • Ensure best-in-class stewardship.
  • Engage portfolio -as appropriate-as volunteers, enhancing their connection to the Foundation and to other prospects.
  • Diligently track portfolio activity to maximize work in the field leading to revenue.

Faculty

  • Proactively build relationships with faculty and administrators to lead target initiatives. This includes the ability to influence and coach faculty members.
  • In partnership with faculty, develop compelling gift opportunities and proposals. Ensure each proposal is vetted with leadership, appropriately scoped, well-crafted, and meets the priorities of both the donor and the organization
  • Lead and guide faculty to build their program, including but not limited to, educating them on philanthropy and the Foundation's role, producing informative and engaging materials, creating events or touch points focused on qualification and cultivation, and executing a comprehensive stewardship strategy.

Board members

  • As appropriate, leverage Board members' knowledge of and relationships with prospective donors

Other

  • In addition to managing full portfolio of donors, serve as lead project manager for one or more team-wide projects

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit fundraising or sales with demonstrated success securing commitments of $100,000 or above, or equivalent in a sales environment
