Description & Responsibilities

 

Ceres’ Water Program promotes capital market solutions to the global water crisis by accelerating private sector leadership on sustainable water management, through cutting-edge research, investor mobilization and advocacy. Ultimately our work is about changing the way the world’s largest economic actors value and manage water.

 

The Senior Manager, Investor Engagement position will bring technical water expertise to the program’s efforts to protect freshwater from corporate practices, with an emphasis on sectors that create the most severe and systemic impacts on water resources, to improve the sustainability of their water-related policies and practices. The Senior Manager also helps lead our work with the investment community around Ceres’ Valuing Water Initiative and other strategic investor engagements on water. 

 

This full-time position will be based in our Boston office and reports to the Director, Investor Engagement, Water.

 

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Organize investor led engagements with priority companies on water, by developing materials and resources, in partnership with Ceres' water experts, and facilitation plans to ensure constructive engagements and dialogues that help drive company progress. Support the development and execution of a new global investor-led initiative engaging with companies on water risk.  Lead technical insight and review on internal and external water-related research and analysis.   Conduct data analysis relevant to investor engagements.  Partner with the Director in the development of the business case around water risk and design engagement strategies related to water risk in investor portfolios.  Begin with supporting the Valuing Water Finance Initiative efforts around a materiality assessment and complementary case studies.  Engage on a regular basis with institutional investors in the Valuing Water Finance Initiative and the Investor Water Hub network, as well as other investors interested in water topics.   Participate in team strategic planning and implementation related to Ceres investor water integration and water shareholder engagement.  Represent Ceres in external partnerships and at strategic convenings/events regarding water and ESG integration and disclosure. Work with other Ceres teams to support investor engagement on water risk issues. Contribute to social media, blogging and work with the Communications and Marketing team to further Ceres’ investor-water priorities. Support Ceres Development Team with content on funding proposals, progress reports, and funder education. Participate in Water team activities such as weekly team meetings, quarterly and annual program reviews, and annual planning meetings. Participate in planning for the Ceres annual conference program and other events to educate stakeholders on water risk. Supervise consultants and interns, including hiring and training

 

Qualifications

 

Seven years of relevant work experience in sustainability field, with a specific focus on water Experience in managing campaigns involving diverse constituencies and/or facilitating stakeholder discussions.  Strong meeting facilitation and verbal communication skills. Fluent in financial concepts.  Understanding of the various roles, skill-sets and activities related to the institutional investor marketplace.   Understanding of risk management tools and models used in fund management, a plus. Understanding of the trends in ESG integration and responsible investing, a plus. Experience using financial data platforms such as Bloomberg, Reuters and Factset, a plus. Knowledge of water themed investing and solutions, a plus. Experience supervising staff, including ability to provide feedback, training and support staff professional development. Experience cultivating effective supervisory relationships (across gender identify, race ethnicity, and socio-economic background) with direct reports. Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, superior leadership ability, strong initiative and motivation. Excellent project management, research and writing skills. Successful record of organizing and executing multiple projects and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Desire to work in a not-for-profit, advocacy-focused organization. Experience working with the media, a plus.
