Speech-Language Pathologist / Two’s Classroom Teacher -- Katherine Hamm Center

The mission of the Atlanta Speech School is to help each person develop his or her full potential through language and literacy. Established in 1938, the Atlanta Speech School serves children and adults with speech, hearing, language, or learning disabilities through clinical and educational programs, in addition to providing professional development for teachers and educators in partner schools and preschools. All of our programs are built upon a foundation of caring instruction, based on proven research, and strengthened with a depth of academic and clinical knowledge.

The Katherine Hamm Center has an opening for a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist for the 2021-2022 school year. The Katherine Hamm Center is a program for children from birth through elementary school who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Position Summary:

The speech-language pathologist will provide excellent therapy to children who are deaf or hard of hearing, using an auditory verbal approach to develop communication. Therapy takes place in a school setting with individuals or small groups. The pathologist is responsible for reporting goals and progress to classroom teachers and parents. 

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement individual and group therapy sessions for preschool and elementary-aged children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing with particular emphasis given to facilitating speech and aural habilitation/phonetic listening skills
  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations and generate written reports annually for each student
  • Participate in parent conferences as requested by classroom teacher or as deemed appropriate
  • Maintain an effective system for communicating with parents, colleagues, and outside personnel regarding children’s development
  • Work collaboratively with teachers of the deaf, audiologists, psychologists, and occupational therapists to ensure exemplary services are provided for each child 

 

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Eligible for State of Georgia ASHA certification
  • Strong understanding of aural habilitation and auditory verbal principles
  • Basic level of comfort working with children wearing cochlear implants, hearing aids and assistive listening devices
  • LSLS Certification preferred
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development is required.

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with experience.
