GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director of Taller Puertorriqueño (Taller) is the key management leader overseeing administration, and delivery of services in support of Taller’s mission and vision, including fundraising, program development, human resources, etc. to achieve Taller’s goals and objectives as outlined in the Board approved Strategic Plan and as established in Taller’s by-laws. The Executive Director is responsible for determining funding and revenue strategies and allocations that ensure the perpetuity and growth of the organization. The position serves as the Chief Executive Office of Taller and reports directly to the Board of Directors.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads Taller in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
- Ensures the fiscal integrity of the organization, including the submission of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
- Communicates effectively with the Board of Directors and provides, in a timely and accurate manner, all necessary information for the Board to properly function and make informed policy decisions.
- Fundraises and develops other revenues necessary to support mission.
- Owns responsibility for:
- Fiscal and operation management that generally anticipates performing within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
- Signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made/entered into on behalf of the organization.
- Effective administration of all Taller’s operations.
- Possesses broad knowledge and interest in the application of new media technologies to advance organizational goals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree required or 12-15 years equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. Degree in Arts Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, or equivalent field. Master’s degree in similar disciplines preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience leading an organization, preferably a non-profit.
- 5-7 years effective management experience.
- Possess:
- A deep commitment to Taller’s mission and role in the community.
- Fluency in both the English and Spanish languages (Written and oral).
- Knowledge of Puerto Rican and Latinx culture and history.
- Show:
- A successful track record in fundraising, defined by excellent donor relations, an understanding of the funding community and the ability to solicit funds from private and public sources, large and small.
- Fundraising work will include but is not limited to special events, sponsorship development, grant writing, direct mail campaigns, etc.
- Excellent financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting, and the efficient use of resources.
- A history of transparency and high integrity leadership skills including organizational management, team building, public speaking, consultation, collaboration, problem solving, community building, strategic planning, marketing, capacity building, etc.
- A successful track record in fundraising, defined by excellent donor relations, an understanding of the funding community and the ability to solicit funds from private and public sources, large and small.
- Demonstrate the ability to:
- Pair high level strategic thinking/planning with the ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, community, and donors.
- Successfully generate new revenue streams and improve financial results/status.
- Oversee and collaborate with staff leveraging strong interpersonal, group and organizational skills.
- Establish relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
- Bring strong:
- Organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, etc.
- Written and oral communication skills and public speaking ability.
- Experience in human resource management and personnel supervision etc.
- Work ethic with a high degree of energy.
OVERSIGHT & TRAVEL
- The Executive Director will be supervised by Taller’s Board of Directors.
- Some travel may be required including to Puerto Rico and other Latinx countries.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Materials/Products: Custodian of all organization’s assets.
- Fiscal: Total accountability for all agency’s cash, bank accounts, the approval of all expenditures, and for operating within approved budget.
- Business Contact: Board of Directors, general public, businesses, vendors, contractors, government and other agency personnel at the highest level, and art professionals, including those from Puerto Rico and Latinx cultures etc.
