Jewish Family & Career Services “JF&CS” is a Georgia non-profit organization with a roughly 13-million-dollar budget.  The agency makes hope and opportunity happen by providing integrated programs and services that maximize self-sufficiency and quality of life.  The JF&CS Foundation holds the agency’s endowment and restricted fund assets. JF&CS is now seeking a Part Time Food Pantry Outreach and Volunteer Specialist.

 

Salaried Part-Time at 20 hours per week

PURPOSE:

To ensure an adequate and suitable supply of food, partners, and volunteers for the pantry to successfully serve those in need with respect and client-choice, while meeting target program and financial outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and oversee regular volunteer work schedules for stocking shelves, packing food for daily distribution, distributing to recipients, and special projects including delivery of prepared and other meals.
  • In partnership with the JF&CS Volunteer Department and the Food Pantry Manager, train, schedule, manage, and assist with recruiting volunteers to augment staff including synagogue and community organization engagement and volunteerism.
  • With oversight from the Food Pantry Manager, responsible for all aspects of food acquisition including shopping for produce, finding partners who will regularly donate food, food rescue, looking for and responding to opportunities for intermittent food donations, etc. 
  • With oversight from the Food Pantry Manager, contribute to increasing opportunities for client choice and ensuring that food distribution is respectful, efficient, and grounded in best practices.
  • Serve as lead for High Holiday Food Drives (Operation Isaiah and Passover) and partner with synagogue outreach to promote events.
  • Enter appropriate data into agency database for food acquisition, distribution, and volunteerism accurately and in a timely way as required by the agency, grants and other funders.
  • Track in-kind food, gifts, and volunteers that need to be acknowledged, either publicly or individually, and coordinate recognition with the development and marketing departments.
  • Contribute to grant reports as requested.
  • Assume responsibility for special projects as requested. 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to operate and drive, with the appropriate up to date license, a transit van or box truck for food pick up and delivery
  • Excellent communication, relationship building, and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines successfully
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with other departments within the agency, partners, donors and other stakeholders
  • Sense of urgency and flexibility, the ability to adapt and respond accordingly
  • Good computer skills (must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to learn how to use online customer management database

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and perform physical work such as stocking shelves, packing and moving boxes, loading vans, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk and hear.
  • The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment is frequently fast paced with multiple clients/employees needing assistance. 
  • Must be willing to work one weekday afternoon / evening per week.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience managing volunteers a plus; enthusiasm for providing an opportunity for the community to support this cause is a must.
  • Food pantry (or similar) experience and knowledge of the industry strongly preferred.
