IASP is searching for an Associate Director of Membership to oversee its global membership and affiliate relations department.    IASP provides a number of education, networking and engagement opportunities through a suite of member benefits including the society’s two scholarly journals, PAIN and PAIN Reports, PAIN Research Forum, and RELIEF.  IASP education and meetings include a number of meetings and education events globally including the organization’s flagship meeting, the World Congress on Pain along with other in person and virtual activities and learning experiences.

The Associate Director will oversee the strategy for the department and manage a staff of two, one of whom will be shared with the Associate Director of Marketing.   Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies and plans for IASP membership, leading strategic and operational guidelines for managing partnerships between IASP and its Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and Chapters as well as directing IASP’s overall membership engagement strategy.  This position is also responsible for overseeing management of the IASP member database, ensuring integrity of the data and developing and providing appropriate reports for IASP staff and volunteer leadership.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial-minded, strategic thinker and team player.  He/she/they are able to demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, direct reports, executive management, and volunteer leaders to execute plans and achieve measurable goals.

IASP is the leading global professional forum for science, practice, and education in the field of pain. Membership is open to all professionals involved in research, diagnosis, or treatment of pain. IASP has more than 7,000 members in 133 countries, 90 national chapters, and 21 Special Interest Groups (SIGs). IASP plans a World Congress every other year with over 5,000 attendees. The World Congress on Pain is the world’s premier gathering on the topic and is international and multidisciplinary. The program comprises plenary sessions, workshops, poster sessions, and refresher courses, and attendees may receive continuing medical education credits.

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a CAE preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Previous management experience in membership association required, 5-8 years preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of association management, membership retention and recruitment, and working with component groups.
  • Ability to work in dynamic, collegial environment with cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Strategic thinker who can develop plans that address member and volunteer engagement.
  • Technical proficiency including AMS oversight experience (iMIS a plus).
  • Prior experience with a global organization is a plus as is proficiency in a language other than English
