About ARTogether

ARTogether is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Oakland, California.

Our mission is to provide arts programs that foster compassionate communities, where refugees and immigrants can flourish. In 2020, we ran 27 arts based initiatives, reaching more than 1000 participants.

Our Vision

For refugees and immigrants moving to the United States, the journey has just begun. ARTogether offers programs that reach out to refugees and immigrants, providing welcoming, creative spaces for local refugees and immigrants to connect with their community. Our goal is to build communities and promote long-term prosperity for refugees and immigrants, even after assistance from initial government and NGO resettlement programs has ceased. For these programs, art is our social glue, its universality binding us all together.

Art plays a special role in the refugee community. It invites conversation, laughter, storytelling and a sense of belonging. At the community level, it has a unique ability to bring people together, to draw together people from different backgrounds and forge connections through creativity and self-expression. Finally, art transcends the spoken word, allowing people to communicate and express themselves without the burden of language barriers.

Executive Summary

As we move into our next phase of growth, we are looking for passionate individuals that are committed to bringing a variety of perspectives and backgrounds, as we strive towards building a board that best reflects the population we serve.

Our communities are rich in diversity and wisdom. They are composed by 40% South East Asian / Asian American / Pacific Islanders, 30% Latinx, 10% Middle-Eastern, 10% Black or North African, 5% Native American.

The board meets monthly and oversees governing, financial and legal decisions. The board also provides structural and strategic support as ARTogether continues to grow and develop its programs. Participation is a yearly commitment, to be renewed in January every year.

What we offer

By being on a non profit board of directors, you will be able to combine your drive to make the world a better place with the opportunity to enhance and develop your leadership skills. On the board, you will join a tight group of 7 members from the most different professional backgrounds united by a willingness to learn from the ARTogether community and each other.

We strive to provide opportunities for leadership and networking in the form of board retreats, participation in training, mentorship, public speaking, project management, and much more. We value each individual’s story and interests, and we are open to working together to find an ideal fit for each new member.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for committed members who share our goal of being a resource to the refugee and immigrant communities, and who have the time and the willingness to share their expertise and network with ARTogether. Particularly, we are looking for individuals with interest and expertise in law, marketing, education, art therapy, non-profit governance, art administration, and fundraising, but we are excited to hear from people with other areas of interest and knowledge who would like to work with us.

While we are a grassroot organization with initiatives taking place locally in the East Bay, we welcome qualified and motivated applicants from outside the area.
