The Dean is the Academy’s Chief Academic Officer and is a member of the school’s administrative leadership team. This position reports to the President of AYA. The Dean leads the academic direction of the school. Another key role is the organized future planning for all school programs in the academic area.

The Dean of the Academy is the leader of the teaching faculty and is responsible for all aspects of the academic program including the co-curricular and extracurricular offerings.  The Dean also oversees the afterschool program and coordinates the work of a Parent Volunteer Program. The Dean supervises all faculty, the Learning Specialist, the Academic Director and Librarian, the After-School Director and the administrative staff who support the academic program.

The Dean of the Academy is a professional educator that interacts with other academic leaders from around our city and region as well as inspiring those in her tutelage to do the same. One of the Dean’s key roles is to lead the school’s current programs toward a high standard of excellence while keenly looking toward future goals. The position requires the ability to build consensus from constituent groups including faculty, parents and staff while also being willing to innovate and boldly lead new initiatives.  

Key responsibilities for the position:

  • Primary responsibility for setting standards for curriculum both in academic rigor and in compliance with the Christian worldview as set forth in our mission.
  • Prepare measurable, clear goals and work with direct reports to complete them.
  • Serve as a strong Christian example and a positive role model who uplifts co-workers, students, and parents as a leader in this community.
  • Prepare calendar and plans for the overall academic year, coordinate scope and sequence for all grade levels and subject areas, supervise all academic programs, and coordinate important school events including assemblies, chapels, grandparents’ day, graduations, Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings.
  • In the short term, there will be the opportunity to participate in setting priorities and strategic goals for the academic program and the institution as we establish a vision for “AYA at 30” which will occur in 2027.
  • Communicate effectively to students and parents, faculty and staff, and members of the administrative team.  Communicate with board members as needed within administrative leadership responsibilities.  
  • Manage and oversee expenses for academic programs.  Provide input to the budgeting process for future years.
  • Help establish all school policies. Enforce and uphold these policies.
  • Strengthen the school by leading parents to serve effectively. This would include strengthening the current parent teacher organization into a more vibrant part of the AYA community.
  • Others responsibilities as directed by the President.
