Volunteer Board Members

Mental Health America of Georgia is seeking members preferably with board experience to join the Board of Directors.

• Provide oversight of and assume responsibility for MHAG’s finances and management through attention to financial and management reports and briefings by staff.
• Attend bi-monthly board meetings in person or virtually. Attendance by phone or video is acceptable, but in person is preferred once in person is allowed.

• • Personally support the organization financially by (1) making an annual gift as dictated by your circumstances AND (2) participating in soliciting funds by various means (i.e., mini-fundraisers, Facebook campaigns, securing members during the membership drive, signing up teams for the golf tournament, securing silent auction items, participating in corporate or personal "asks," etc.). The aggregate result of this activity should be no less than $1,000 annually.

• Attend MHAG orientation, trainings and planning sessions.
• Each Board member must actively participate in at least two committees. Options include - Finance, Fundraising, Public Policy and Marketing/Communications. NOTE: Organizations are most vigorous when board members spend a minimum of 6 hours per month on the organization’s work.
• Promptly respond to all communication from MHAG board members, staff and committees.
• Be responsible for keeping informed of MHAG’s goals, objectives and programs and talk about them regularly.
• Act as a spokesperson for MHAG via testifying, speaking and representing MHAG as requested.
• Attend a minimum of 2 MHAG public events each year (i.e., the annual casino night, Conversations & Cocktails, Mental Health Day at the Capitol, community education events, other special events, etc.).
• Represent MHAG in your sphere of influence via your daily verbal and social communications. Include MHAG board membership on your biography and resume. When appropriate.
• Connect MHAG with people of influence that you know.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information provided to you in your capacity as a board member.
• Take initiative and provide leadership as needed.
• Declare any conflicts of interest no less than annually. Recuse yourself from discussions and voting when there is a conflict, and ask the minutes to so state.

• Bring the whole of your expertise, capabilities and sphere of influence to bear for MHAG and its efforts to achieve its mission

Previous nonprofit board experience preferred.
