Their global network creates standards, policies, and tools for business and certifies companies -- known as B Corps -- which are required to meet the highest standards of performance, transparency, and accountability. Their community presently includes over 3,800 B Corps in 70 countries and 150 industries, and over 100,000 companies manage their impact with the B Impact Assessment and the SDG Action Manager.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Director of Community leads the Community Team within B Lab US/Canada and will report directly to B Lab’s CEO. This is a critical leadership role in B Lab US/Canada, supporting and activating Certified B Corporations and other credible companies in order to drive systemic change towards an inclusive, equitable and sustainable economy.

The threefold nature of this role creates for a particularly compelling opportunity, focusing on the demonstration of indispensable business value, building of community, and delivery of impact. First, this position will interact routinely with B Corps in a support function, ensuring a positive post-certification experience and access to resources and opportunities. Second, this position will foster the use of those resources, ensuring that B Corps leverage the platforms to find meaningful partnerships and become active members within the community. Third, this position will work to mobilize the activated community, inspiring them to engage in collective action groups focused on stakeholder governance, racial equity and climate justice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy, Operations, and Services

  • Lead the team in achieving 2021 goals and set 2022 goals, outputs, and outcomes for B Corp Community consistent with B Lab’s  strategy 
  • Identify and lead new offerings, partnerships, and programs that drive value for the B Corp community; ensure implementation of the community engagement strategy
  • Ensure that coherent, aligned, and reinforcing programs and campaigns drive the health of the community of Certified B Corporations
  • Oversee all aspects of the management of the Community Team, systems, and processes, while delivering growth and expansion, enhanced community engagement, and increased community satisfaction
  • Work closely with the Marketing team on major initiatives to amplify B Lab’s message within the community through storytelling
  • Ensure attainment of revenue goals from recertification renewals and event

Community Relations, Engagement, and Mobilization 

  • Oversee engagement, events, network, and technology/innovation functions 
  • Assess, scope and identify impact and business value opportunities for the community]
  • Drive awareness of impact and business value by engaging directly with B Corps via events, virtual convenings, and direct outreach
  • Engage with the B Corp community to ensure robust and responsive feedback, improve customer journey, and enhance long-term relationships
  • Support social and environmental justice, equity, and inclusion for Black, Indigeneous, People of Color (BIPOC) and other underrepresented community members. Ensure that community engagement initiatives reinforce awareness, trust, satisfaction, and connectivity that fosters engagement and resilience for BIPOC community members and BIPOC owned or led B Corps.

     

Organizational Leadership and Community Circle Management 

  • Serve as one of the senior members of the B Lab US/Canada team, ensuring organization wide culture building and performance
  • Contribute to strategy formation and refinement
  • Lead the Community Team, mentor direct reports, and support team managers with management accountabilities; focus the team on goals
  • Identify ways to improve circle or team structure; identify resourcing gaps and opportunities, proposing new hires for the Community Team to the Organizational Health Circle
  • Ensure the continuous education and professional growth of the team; nurture a transparent environment that supports constructive criticism
  • Support strong and effective change management through stakeholder engagement and communication

     

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES, AND ATTRIBUTES:

The ideal candidate is/has:

  • 8+ yrs of significant accomplishments in either coalition/movement-building organizations, membership-based organizations, or related; 4+ years working at Manager level or above
  • Proven ability to implement high-impact community programs, with a member/client-first mindset, building solutions that demonstrate enhanced value
  • Experience participating in strategy development; expertise in operationalizing strategy and translating into action
  • A network, relationship, and community builder; socially confident with exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Solutions-oriented and results-driven; high attention to detail; ability to multitask in a demanding, fast-paced environment; excellent project management skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, leads with curiosity, and operates with a growth mindset; able to ruthlessly prioritize; confident decision-maker
  • Empathetic, with ability to engage with and influence a variety of stakeholders, community and staff; able to anticipate unique needs of different audiences
  • Keen understanding of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) within an organization, across initiatives, via people management, and through navigating complex interpersonal relationships
