Job description

The Next Chapter Resource Center (TNC) is seeking members to join the Board of Directors. Our mission is to provide the resources necessary to change the lives of young adults. To transform lives, one person at a time, as they transition into their next chapter of life. TNC is a resource center whose target group is economically disadvantaged young men and women ages 18 - 29 years old in need of a support system to help build a foundation for becoming self-sustainable.  We are an organization that will provide resources to young adults that may be homeless and or unemployed. It might also consist of college students in need for a semester or domestic and or sexual abuse victims suffering from low self-esteem. Our program’s approach will be a collaborative effort of ministerial leaders, licensed health professionals, teachers, financial advisors, dance instructors, coaches, and administrative volunteers.  The resources we currently provide are as follows:  Mental Health Services, Health Screenings & Education, Counseling (spiritual and mental), and Groups; Life skill classes (Microsoft Office Suite, Job Readiness, Financial Planning, and Time Management); and a Clothing Bank.  As we grow and expand, we will increase our reach by offering programs that support human basic needs and basic education courses. The services we provide are unique in catering to young adults by providing holistic (spiritual, emotional, and economic) care and a comprehensive empowerment program.  The organization will significantly impact the Columbus community in both short-term relief and long-term skill development growth.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the organization's mission and purpose and its strategic direction. This includes ensuring the organization has a clear vision, ensuring financial stability and compliance with relevant governing documents, laws, and regulatory guidelines.  The Board of Directors provides the organization with guidance and support based on members’ expertise, professional experience, and knowledge. Members of the board should demonstrate a passion for the organizations’ mission and work. They are expected to play an active role in the life of the organization and be willing to attend monthly meetings, annual meeting in October as well as special board meetings, committee meetings, and special events, Personally support the organization financially by (1) making an annual gift as dictated by the bylaws; Participating in soliciting funds by various means (i.e., Actively support fundraisers, Facebook campaigns, Securing donations of items to support fundraisers, Participating in corporate or personal "asks, campaigns." etc.), Board members are expected to follow through on commitments and participate fully in the decision-making process.

Required Skillset
 

QUALIFICATIONS:  This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about TNC’s mission. We are looking for experienced and knowledgeable professionals coming from all areas of expertise.  However, due to the mission and nature of the organization, experience in the following fields would be beneficial:  Finance: playing a crucial role in establishing and implementing the best financial and fiscal practices, strategic budget planning, and execution, Law: providing legal expertise and support, ensuring compliance with applicable law; Education: supporting the design and implementing of the educational programs directed at members of the organization and/or public; Health services: supporting development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of health & welfare plans.

The ideal candidate would also hold some of or a combination of the following skills and experiences: Experience in organizational management; Governance / Board experience; Experience of people management / human resources; Involvement with community action or organizing; Fundraising; Marketing; Grant Writing & Research Knowledge; Time and willingness to serve.

Duration of job

TERM OF OFFICE:  Newly elected members of the Board of Directors who have not served before shall serve initial one-year terms.  After the initial one-year term, members of the Board of Directors may serve an additional three-year term.  TNC Board Members must continue to meet attendance, monetary, and participation requirements.
