The Position

The National Women’s Law Center seeks a Philanthropic Engagement Associate to work closely with the Director of Philanthropic Engagement to support the National Women’s Law Center’s individual giving program. As a key member of the individual giving team, the Associate will support a donor-centric philanthropic engagement strategy by conducting donor research and prospecting, gift tracking, donor stewardship, donor event support, and general fundraising and stewardship support.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting research on donors and prospective individual donors—including preparing briefing materials as appropriate—and capturing research in Raiser’s Edge database (RE).
  • Supporting solicitors (including members of the NWLC Senior leadership team team) with their portfolios by tracking actions in RE; supporting cultivation/stewardship by preparing emails, backgrounders, and call sheets as appropriate; and recording outcomes and next steps in RE.
  • Coordinating with the Manager of Philanthropic Engagement and members of Comms/Marketing team to connect donors’ advocacy activity to the database.
  • Serving as the individual giving team lead on the daily major individual gift alerts as they come in: (1) alerting of new gifts; (2) ensuring that new donors enter into a portfolio and receive an immediate response (based on agreed-upon parameters); and (3) coordinating with the team, Senior Database Manager, and VP for Development, to ensure that all gifts are coded accurately.
  • Reporting regularly to the team (on a quarterly basis) on outstanding pledges and coordinating with the team to ensure invoicing and payment.
  • Coordinating with the Senior Database Manager to regularly audit the Investor Pipeline (making sure that proposals and prospects are updated, and cold leads are removed to avoid bottlenecks).
  • Playing an integral role in the acknowledgments process by working with the Development Assistant in the creation of acknowledgment letters and ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Providing donor fundraising and cultivation event support, including supporting solicitation and pledge follow up and maintaining RSVP lists.
  • Supporting direct mail and email appeal efforts.
  • Preparing the annual application to the Combined Federal Campaign.
  • Servings as the primary contact for questions pertaining to receipt of gifts to the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund, as well as related questions regarding donor relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in fundraising/development, communications, or other related positions.
  • Strong research, organizational skills, oral and written communications, and proofreading skills, with strong eye for detail, and a thoughtful, analytical approach to managing complex tasks.
  • The ability to be self-directed, provide solutions and work well with competing priorities, meet deadlines, and manage workflow processes involving multiple people.
  • Collaborative style combined with the ability and desired to work in a team-based environment.
  • Experience with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfort with engaging in written and verbal communications with high-level donors and prospects and the ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential information regarding the Center’s business and sensitive donor information.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule when required.

Additional preferred skills and knowledge:

 

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database, gift acknowledgments, and special event support.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working on gender and racial equity and centering communities of color in approach to work.

Key Relations

The Philanthropic Engagement Associate reports directly to the Director of Philanthropic Engagement and collaborates with the Vice President for Development and key program staff, as well as the President and CEO, COO and Chief of Staff, as well as colleagues in Development, Finance, and Communications. 

Compensation

A minimum salary of $49,735 will be provided to the successful candidate having met the minimum requirements for the position consistent with the National Women’s Law Center’s compensation framework.

The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation. 

Classification

NWLC recognizes a staff bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in NWLC’s bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
