MISSION

This mission is advanced through communal pursuit of excellence in academic, religious, extracurricular, leadership, and service programs.

SUMMARY

The Major Gifts Officer is a key member of the Office for Institutional Advancement (OIA), which includes Development, Alumni Relations, and Communications. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects to advance the mission and strategic priorities of Marist School. The Major Gifts Officer may also direct the efforts of specific fundraising volunteers and assist with special fundraising projects.

This is a 12-month, full-time staff position. The hours for this position are generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some additional evening and weekend commitments.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 to 200 prospective and current donors of varying constituencies capable of making a major gift to fund institutional priorities (i.e. Annual Fund, capital and special projects, endowment, Georgia GOAL, etc.). Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned prospect pool. Draft gift proposals, personalized correspondence, endowed fund agreements, and named space agreements as needed.
  • Work closely with the Annual Giving team to cultivate and solicit leadership Annual Fund gifts from prospects and donors in portfolio. Assist Annual Giving team with other Annual Fund solicitations as needed.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of planned giving techniques and vehicles and promote planned giving when appropriate to maximize donor potential and support.
  • Meet or exceed measurable performance goals and related metrics with respect to number of personal visits, major gift revenue, and prospect moves management.
  • Collaborate with, engage, and coordinate fundraising volunteers in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes as needed.
  • Maintain moves management process in Raiser’s Edge for assigned prospects and volunteers’ prospects (i.e. track actions, enter call reports, and ensure the database reflects communications and interactions that move donor relationships forward).
  • Actively participate in Office for Institutional Advancement Prospect Management meetings and collaborate with other prospect managers on strategy development.
  • Collaborate with Advancement team members and campus partners to increase philanthropic gifts to Marist School, and remain conversant with the full range of Marist School’s needs and funding priorities.
  • Attend various Marist School events to actively connect with prospects and donors (i.e. President’s Circle Dinner; St. Peter Chanel Dinner; Strategic Plan 2025 events; Homecoming Dinner, Reunion Weekend activities, and other alumni events; donor and volunteer Eagles’ Nest events; Mothers Luncheons; etc.).
  • Direct the efforts of select alumni milestone reunion classes for the Annual Fund. Specific duties:
  • Organize, manage, train, and support Annual Fund alumni milestone reunion volunteers. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating volunteer committee meetings and trainings; communicating with and preparing materials for volunteers; analyzing prospect pools and assigning ask amounts; directing the solicitation efforts of volunteers; and personally soliciting reunion prospects.
  • Collaborate with major reunion volunteers, Director of Annual Giving, and Director of Alumni Engagement to develop and implement solicitation and marketing strategies tailored to specific classes.
  • Coordinate with the Communications team on marketing materials tailored to specific classes as needed.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies for major donor events, future capital campaigns, and special fundraising projects.
  • Assist in preparing requests for funding from foundations and other potential funders, as well as required foundation grant reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development or Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  •  3-5 years of progressive experience in non-profit or educational fundraising, preferably in major gift fundraising.
  • Proven ability to network; to develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; to conduct in-person and virtual prospect/donor visits; and to successfully close gifts for capital, endowment, and annual support with minimal oversight.
  • Exceptional oral, written, telephone, and email communication skills; ability to effectively articulate the mission of the school and provide a compelling case for support to a variety of constituents.
  • Sound judgment and strong interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships with prospects/donors and to manage and motivate volunteers.
  • Well-developed strategic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, as well as strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to be self-directed and highly motivated to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive, fluid environment.
  • Understanding and support of the Marist School mission and the institution’s funding priorities.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and prospective and current donors in order to foster effective, reciprocal communication and promote a collegial environment.
  • Ability to navigate change and manage challenges in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with proprietary information and sensitive situations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and in Raiser’s Edge.
