Job Description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Program Officer (CPO), the Director of Volunteer and Lions Engagement (Director) is responsible for the creation and implementation of volunteer programs for the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. In collaboration with the CPO and other senior leaders the Director will create programs that inspire and motivates stakeholder to action in service of our mission and fundraising goals. Building relationships with corporate, community and Lions volunteers the Director will ensure an energized, efficient, and effective volunteer base of support for the organization. The Director will interact with all functional areas of the organization and will be accountable for leading the development of strategies, operational plans, metrics and initiatives to support 1) skilled volunteer matching, placement and support; 3) day of leadership for events and volunteer opportunities; 3) recognizing and celebrating volunteers. The Director builds a customer service approach to strengthen relationship and engage volunteers to make mission focused impact.

The ideal Director will have experience leading volunteer programs of a nonprofit with a $6M and up budget, as well as demonstrated success in planning, implementation, and project management of statewide programs with 7 or more years of experience in nonprofits.

Physically located in Chamblee, GA, the Director will be a leader who can drive multiple initiatives and disparate projects to support a broader strategy. The Director will collaborate with cross functional teams to creatively and relentlessly execute big-picture ideas by engaging partners and volunteers across the state of Georgia.

Job Functions

Volunteer Engagement

  • Develop, implement, and adapt internal and external volunteer engagement plan guiding volunteers from point of entry through orientation, matching, stewardship, and conclusion of service
  • Create annualized goals and metrics to ensure fulfillment of the organizations objectives
  • Provide reports internally and to the Board as needed
  • Partner with the Development team to incorporate volunteerism into grants and sponsorship with partners
  • Develop training for new volunteers and existing volunteers
  • Build an advisory of volunteers to continuously improve engagement
  • Support the CPO in developing and advisory of optometrists, ophthalmologists, and audiologists to inform program strategies, recruitment of skilled volunteers, and advocate for the organization
  • Build and adapts programs for local Lions Clubs to participate and further the mission of the organization through service and fund development
  • Develop and implement specialized programs to recruit optometrists, ophthalmologists, and audiologists as volunteers
  • Implements award and recognition programs that celebrate volunteers and giving milestones
  • Develops community relationships to enhance visibility, awareness, and engagement
  • Present and assist Lions Clubs in developing plans to volunteer and raise funds for the mission
  • Serve as a positive public facing advocate and ambassador for the mission of the organization

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree(s) in related areas preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in volunteer management.
  • 7 years or more of nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Experience with health and human services organizations is a plus.
  • Experience working with Lions Clubs and volunteers preferred.
  • Experience in organizations that collaborate deeply with volunteers is preferred.

Environmental and Working Conditions

Normal internal office environment.  Travel estimated up to 20% (can be up to 2-7 days or more in a month, including weekends, depending upon scheduling requirements).  The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the state by using a map or other direction methods.  Ability to travel by car, airplane or other modes of transportation required.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to carry out detailed and complex instructions; ability to interact with coworkers and public by telephone and in person as a member of a team to provide services to customers, both external and internal; ability to perform a variety of duties and to prioritize tasks to meet organizational needs.  Ability to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and/or technical information and guidance in person, by telephone, email, fax or correspondence.  Physical requirements include: sitting for four + hours a day, standing for one to two + hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications include speaking, writing and reading comprehension.
