Fair Food Network is a national nonprofit whose mission is to grow community health and wealth through food. A decade in, our work is connecting people to the power of food to improve health, support farmers, ignite local economies, and open opportunities for all. We invite nominations and applications for the role of Director of Evaluation to embed evaluation across the organization.

Our work testing, scaling, and replicating demonstrably successful responses to food insecurity has energized and empowered hundreds of local communities and tens of thousands of families. We have achieved this through our innovative Double Up Food Bucks program, which today is a national model for healthy food incentives, and through our Fair Food Investment Initiative for good food entrepreneurs. Together with our partners, we are pioneering and proving innovations that can be owned locally and scaled nationally.

The Director of Evaluation will be responsible for establishing a new department at FFN to bring evaluation more deeply into and across all areas of our work. This leader will ensure FFN rigorously tracks progress towards our intended impacts and outcomes. They will build a culture of intentional reflection and strategic integration of learning from our evaluation results.  The Director will ensure that the creativity of our teams and the impact of our work is magnified, and that we are successful in more profoundly measuring and reporting that impact.

This creative thought-leader is an entrepreneurial self-starter with demonstrated experience planning and implementing large scale evaluation efforts. They must also be adept at analyzing data, visually portraying data for maximum understanding and impact, and harnessing outcomes to inform strategy, policy and decision-making. Our new Director will understand what is needed from data systems and dashboards, know how to actively use these tools to test and inform strategy, and be able to skillfully generate opportunities for regular learning within and across program areas.

In this capacity, the Director of Evaluation will lead FFN’s own internal impact assessments, including tracking and reporting of progress towards our departmental goals, while also overseeing external evaluation efforts (such as the Michigan Double Up Food Bucks 3rd party evaluation). Critical expectations of this role include establishing practices and tools that enable staff to regularly share and integrate learning from evaluation findings across program areas and departments, as well as to elevate the implications and lessons learned from FFN evaluation results to the broader field. This individual will also track relevant academic and other research to build our understanding of and responsiveness to findings and lessons from the fields of evaluation, nutrition incentives, impact investing, and food systems work.
