Job Details

Purpose: The Southern Conservation Trust seeks a Development & Content Coordinator to manage grant logistics, grant data, and maintain a calendar of all public grant and reporting deadlines. This position also assists in fundraising research and manages social media. This position is responsible for a large grant and corporate fundraising portfolio in addition to other fundraising and content functions.

About the Organization: The Southern Conservation Trust (SCT) is a 501-(c)3 nonprofit located in downtown Fayetteville, Georgia. SCT is the fastest growing land trust in Georgia and elevates nature through the exceptional stewardship of conserved land, providing environmental education and access to public nature preserves. SCT works throughout the southeast to conserve over 15,000 acres annually. We are seeking an individual with a passion for fundraising, grant writing and management, and the skills and experience to manage SCT’s social media accounts on multiple platforms. The position will work with the entire SCT team on a daily basis. The Development & Content Coordinator will be based in Fayetteville, GA.

Position Details: The Development & Content Coordinator will work daily with SCT’s Director of FEEC/Development, Development Manager and the Executive Director. All staff on our team embrace public speaking and networking opportunities as we work to develop and sustain relationships with funders and community partners, and grow our base of supporters in size and diversity. Responsible for $130,000 in annual revenue.

 

 

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Grant Writing: (Responsible for $110,000 in revenue)

  • Draft compelling grant proposals and conduct relevant research and data analysis for the proposals at the direction of the Director of Development with a focus on SCT operating, parks, owned properties, wildlife, habitat, and other grants not related to FEEC. This position will work closely with other SCT staff and partners in the research and development of these grants.
  • Responsible for writing and submitting 10 grants per quarter, with a total of 40+ per year, with a focus on grants over $5,000.
  • Build and manage grant work plans, including:
  • Develop program summaries, outlining how each of our programs are run for funders.
  • Take the lead on maintaining the annual grantmaking calendar to ensure timely submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports.
  • Manage all proposal writing, reporting, grant tracking and funder acknowledgment.
  • Maintain and update all grant records in the Aplos database.
  • Coordinate internal and external communication and planning during proposal development.
  • Participate in weekly development department meetings to provide updates on submission, award, and prospecting statuses.
  • Lead all aspects of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for a portfolio of 30-50 institutional funders and prospects.
  • Maintain accurate and timely institutional funding pipeline and outcome data.
  • Work with Finance staff to ensure compliance with all grant restrictions and to create grant budgets for new proposals.
  • Manage SCT’s government grants, including application renewals and compliance obligations.
  • Identify leads through designated sources such as the Foundation Directory and GrantWatch and other internet resources and databases.

    • coordinating the development of budgets with the CFO and appropriate departments
    • copyediting and proofreading drafts and final narratives
    • packaging materials for submission
    • submitting grants online, via mail, or in person (depending on submission instructions)

 

Fundraising (Responsible for $20,000)

  • Responsible for the community research needed to perform a community needs assessment for new programs and SCT initiatives, including but not limited to FEEC and parks. Position will conduct community needs assessments to further substantiate the needs.
  • Maintain an awareness of trends in philanthropy, with specific focus on major and planned giving, by participating in ongoing professional training and educational opportunities.
  • Planned Giving - Responsible for the development and launch of a Planned Giving Program and marketing that program and building a planned giving portfolio in year one of 50+ prospects.
  • Provide administrative support in the research and solicitation of new and existing donors to support special events. Perform complex administrative duties, with little supervision, exercising confidentiality, independent discretion, and judgment.
  • Assist in the soliciting silent auction items for Annual Benefit.
  • Be part of the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, appeals, and events.
  • Builds and maintains an active portfolio of 100-150 corporate donors and prospects and works with the Executive Director to solicit these prospects. Responsible for $20,000 in Corporate Revenue.
  • Oversee solicitation and stewardship of foundation and corporate donors, including securing, preparing for, and proactively following up on foundation and corporate cultivation meetings, proposals, and reports.

 

Social Media/Website:

  • Create a Monthly Blog schedule for at least 2 blog posts from staff each month.
  • Engage the community by holding various social media contests (photography, art, etc.) with the Development Manager's oversight.
  • Assist the Development Manager in the planning of the annual social media plan and the execution of that plan.
  • Align and coordinate social media content with overarching marketing/communications goals.
  • Plan, create, share, and moderate branded content (text, images, video) across a variety of social media channels.
  • Management of photo database of all properties, parks and easements.
  • Assist the Development Manager in the development and execution of all email blasts and direct mailings.
  • Responsible for ensuring prompt and accurate replies to questions posed on social media.
  • Responsible for the daily management of all SCT’s Park Focused social media accounts, and will assist the Development Manager with the primary SCT Facebook account, as well as the Education Coordinator with the FEEC accounts, working from an annual social media plan prepared by the Development Manager.

 

Communications:

  • Prepare high quality donor-facing communications in collaboration with program staff, as well as the Executive Director and Director of FEEC.
  • Construct strategic talking points and other materials for program and executive staff to use in donor meetings.
  • Lead website maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (articles links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.
  • Draft and send out all SCT and FEEC press releases with coordination with the Executive Director and Director of FEEC.
  • Proactively identify potential media risks and craft responses, ensuring the reputation of SCT is protected and enhanced while also advancing the organization’s mission.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with the press and partners, creating two-way channels of information and sourcing.
  • Work with the Executive Director to design and implement the annual communications plan.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required.
  • 3-5 years experience fundraising for nonprofits, preferably raising funds from foundations and corporations.
  • Excellent project coordination and research skills.
  •  Experience raising and managing grants.
  • Willingness to travel locally and regionally.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends to further SCT’s mission.
  • Proven track record in building relationships and partnerships with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and communicate with a variety of public and private interests, partners, and constituents.
  • Strong computer proficiency and office skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to use a personal vehicle when necessary (mileage reimbursement for out of county travel).
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and walk on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, discretion, and decision making. Maintain confidentiality and professional work standards and ethics.
  • High-energy, creative, self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills; proven ability to meet deadlines and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to work effectively, positively, and collaboratively as part of our dynamic team.
